http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,142782-page,1/article.html (snip) "Take-Two Interactive Software, publishers of the popular Grand Theft Auto series of games, has received and rejected a US$2 billion acquisition bid from Electronic Arts but left the door open to a possible acquisition later."
Man, if EA succeeds in buying T2 we'll have one good thing: a new GTA every year (but they will be the same with minor improvements every year)
it's not if, but when. EA's gobbling up developers big time now. I wonder if they'll ever consider the EA box they mentioned years ago. They have more power to make or break a console now than they ever did back when they refused to go on the dreamcast, or had to be wooed over onto xbox live. They've had trouble making multiplatform games at the same quality for the ps3 and the 360, so why not just say fuck it, we'll put out our own console next generation? One console standard they have to work on, price it competitively and they'll draw in business with the best lineup of launch games any console would probably ever have. It would be a hit in the US and Europe at least, which is where EA makes their money anyways.
and they have every right to. however, it doesn't mean they are done. The article I read even stated so. "While Take-Two has rejected the initial offer from Electronic Arts, the company has said that it will be willing to enter discussions following the release of Grand Theft Auto IV on 29th April." All take two is doing is waiting until the release of their biggest franchise, raising their worth. Even if they refuse, EA can still go the hostile route, and just buy up the shares. EA will buy TT, it's only a matter of time.
The article seems to imply that Take-Two will be bought by someone, but that they're waiting for GTA IV to come out to get the best price. "They've had trouble making multiplatform games at the same quality for the ps3 and the 360, so why not just say fuck it, we'll put out our own console next generation?" Great idea. But hardware and software usually don't mix, do they? And how could they do anything like XBL? Maybe.....the Google/EA Box? Hmmm...hehe.
I hope EA does not buy Take Two...as Take Two owns 2K games...so not only will we see more shitty EA games, but we will never see any 2K sports games again..for those of you whom are fans of them. If this occurs I will more than likely stick w/ my PS3 and wii..but this will be it for me. I hate EA for many reasons and I personally refuse to buy any of their products. I dont care about GTA 4 but EA is simply buying out their competition and it sickens me. I would be happy to see Take Two go to ANYONE but EA
I think they're planning on it. At the rate they're trying to eat up developers, its making more and more sense. If they had gotten Ubisoft, and then got Take-Two, it would've pretty much been over for Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo will always be around though. Personally, I think it would be in MS's best interest to buy both Take Two and Epic (as they offered). With GTA as an exclusive, and with MS's clout to help 2K sports get the football license back and thus have the franchise exclusive on the 360, I think MS could do very well.
I most defiantly wouldn't buy an EA console. It would be full of American sport shit and sequel upon sequel that I'd just have no interest in. No arcade games either! I can see the Americans loving it however I don't see the Europeans going nuts over it apart from bloody FIFA nuts. Me? I want a console with a bright image not a dark gloomy licensed music fuck you mutha fucker console, which is what an EA console would be. Anyway, no matter how you look at it if the Japanese companies such as Konami, Capcom, Sega (for what thery are worth these days), Namco and all the others stay away from it then I can't see it doing very well anywhere apart for sport fans. After all how many games would be massive sellers apart from the latest stats update to one oftheir sports titles? Yakumo
I think an EA console would succeed due to casual gamers for a little while, and then when the Video game "scene" dies down it will probably do worse and worse. I definitely wouldn't want one, because I really hate sports titles.
Take 2 declined on the offer as they are banking on GTA4, which will most likely make their value sky rocket and EA will have to pony up more cash if T2 were to even consider the offer.
Microsoft wont be buying anyone soon other then Yahoo, since that deal will put them in debt for the first I dought they can afford EA just yet....
This doesn't matter at the end of the world everyone will be owned by either Microsoft or Wal Mart. World war III will be between those two.
EA basically got Microsoft to shut down their xbox sports game division to come on to xbox live for the original xbox. Now they have even more leverage with all their titles and publishing power. If they ever did put out an EA box, they'd have the ability to show other developers how well their titles will sell, and the US is where they make their money. Japanese companies could ignore it, but then again, the 360 didn't get as big as it is in the US because of its amazing library of Japanese games. It sells in America because its library is focused towards Americans.
Which is why I wouldn't buy one (EA box that is). The 360 does have some great titles though however I noticed that many of the ones I like are from Europe or Japan. FPS aren't my cup of tea and I can't stand all those games based on war. The EA box will have those and endless sports crap which I also can't stand.
I have to agree. While I see GTA as a big insentive for them to do the buy out, I think their main target is Take2's other games as well as their sports line. If EA just wanted GTA they would have put a bid to buy out Rockstar Division/Lable from Take2 but insted they went after the root company.
