    Hi,

Platformers.net are doing a retrospective on Metroid, and mentioned something about early screenshots, before Nintendo forced them to start from scratch.

Any of you cool cats have copies of these?

Are they the ones on the gamecube box and stuff?

Not that I'm aware of. I believe these are still using the original, rejected game engine.

    I like it. It's gritty.

The grittyness was probably caused by the capturing hardware

Lots, check IGN. And probably most other big gaming sites from back then.

It looks like a Half Life 1 game or something. Some of those are on the back of my Gamecube box and promotional crap.
    Nintendo rejected it?

Never heard of this. I dont doubt it considering Metroid is a key ingredient to any Nintendo system.... Is it all theory or was any information on a "Metroid 64" released?!

As far as I know, Metroid 64 was nothing but rumours. It was probably planned at some point, just as Nintendo plan a new Zelda for each console, but early in it's lifecycle the lead designer/creator of Metroid was killed in a car accident, so the project was put on indefinite hold. I definately remember talk that it waso be based on the Zelda 64 engine, though.

This is one of the few times i'm glad to have the game we have now instead of the game we could've had. Although i'd love to play that version of the game.

Hmmm... I see. Well all of that sounds like valid reasons... :crying:

And I personally like the old style they used... (As seen in the pictures). Super Metroid is my favorite game ever made, and I love how left in the dark you basically feel the first play through of the game. It seemed... how to say... "Non-User Friendly." When compared to Metroid Prime's User Friendly navigation and lots of text. But of course games these days are aimed to be as easy to use as possible... I just love Super Metroid to much... I know nothing will ever top it...

It's all speculation concerning Metroid64 other than it was on a release list at one time.
