I'd like to see some pictures of early Saturn models

1.) a different looking Saturn that was slimmer - I think GameFan had a 3/4 view of it. if not GameFan then some other magazine (damn that doesn't really help)...it was very cool looking. it might have been the Jupiter, but if it had a CD-ROM drive then it must have been a Saturn.

edit: I forgot that in another thread I had posted a picture of the Saturn that I am describing above

but what I am looking for is a different image of it. smaller and from an angle.

    edit: ooooo like this sketch

2.) the normal looking full-sized, final Saturn that was silver and didn't get released.

It almost looks like someone saw only the top half of the case.
All the drawings look the same, like 1/2 a saturn case.

HOLY CRAP...wowzers, that is one strange looking console.....i assume these were all just conceptions, and not ones actually confirmed by sega?

Hmm I think that they are official concepts from Sega. Mean Machines Sega (the magazine from which the picture is from) seemed to have a pretty good relationship with Sega, and often got a lot of exclusives. As one of the first captions in the article says "Last month we exclusively revealed Sega VR, Mean Machines being the only UK magazine invited to playtest the new hardware...". I could be wrong, but the latter concept image seems to be fairly close to the finished console, and it seems to be of the same art style as the one in question.

Did they give their impressions of the VR?

I didnt realise that it saw the light of day, id be quite curious to know if it was half-decent or just a another Virtual Boy [IMG]

If i remember correctly the vr didnt see the light of day.

though it wouldnt be surprising if that magazine paid for the exclusive rights to test it.

I believe this *might* be the nice silver Saturn that never got released (AFAIK).

it's not one of those grey prototypes of the released Saturn that have been floating around, but I think it is the silver Saturn.

this picture is from EGM. but I'm certain that an early issue of EGM2 *definitally* had a picture of the silver Saturn, and IIRC it was a better picture

Yep, that's the original "final" design for the Saturn. Looks really nice but I bet it was too expensive to ptoduce so they went with the cheap looking gray one. The first "final" Dreamcast consoles looked slighly different as well.

What are the differences on the "first" final design of the Dreamcast?

The jewel that the LED shone through was better looking plus the DC logo was printed on to the machine unlike the sticker version that was finally released.

Damn beancounters ruin everything to save $1. In the usa we didnt even get a Jewel, it was just some pos grey plastic wedge.

If I remember correctly the jewel was supposed to light up on the DC.
