NFR Zeldas have sold for more than $70 on eBay in the past. The resale market is all about supply and demand. As for your cart, it likely got sold to the store during a trade-in. The clerks usually just check to see if the game boots and runs. If it does, great. You can find some great deals at the game stores if you look in the used section. I know of more than one person who purchased a debug PS2 from an EB Games as a "used" PS2. -hl718
Some of those RPGS probably are, and I know the used Marvel Vs Capcom 2 was sort of. But yeah I see what you mean, it sucks when they decide they need to charge a ton for a game especially when half the time it has nothing with it but the CD.
Before the second pressing of the game, the US PS2 version of Rez was topping out close to $100 on the secondary market. It didn't have a huge print run when it was initially released and even now demand for the game is pretty high. It's similar to CV:SOTN (just to pull a popular example). And yes, there are some PS2 games that do demand a pretty penny. -hl718
Ultimately it all comes down to supply and demand on the free market. When a game is shit and people don't want it, the resale price for a used copy stays low. When a game is good and sought after, the resale price for a used copy stays high. It's not unusual to see a sought after title go for more than the original retail price especially if the initial print run stays low. One could always counter that there are plenty of games at EB for $9.99 or less so if Rez is too rich for your blood, why not just pick up a cheap game? -hl718
Oh man, yeah, people here always trade in modded Xboxes and stuff like that! At least it's pretty cool they take them and will sell them!
I've never heard of that.....it'd be pretty killer to luck into a TEST PS2 for like $80 from EB, lol. Maybe I should ask the managers if I can go through their systems and look for m0dz.
Oh, here is a story that will blow your socks off! I went into Ebgames one day because I wanted to get Unreal Championship 2. Ok. There was a big banner hanging IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STORE with a picture of the game stating it was on sale from August 15 to August 17 or something. I went there on the 16th. I take the game up to the cashier and she says that will be $54.11 or something. I then inquire about the sale and point to the big ass banner. She then says "I don't know if we are having a sale or not...its not in the computer. Maybe you can ask the manager. He'll be back in a few days." I then say "But by that time the sale would be over anyway." I then get a blank stare and I promptly leave the store without paying for the game.
I myself work at EB Games and it's a complete hell hole, i'm actually sending my 2 week notice in their soon. That whole job was a mistake. It makes me sick with the way we rip people off, but then again, half of the people that come in are asking for it anyways. As for the whole test PS2 and such for sell used, I have never encountered that, but I would be all over it if that happened. I remeber once this guy came into to "trade-in" his Xbox 360 cause he didnt like it anymore or something like that. Our trade-in value was like $150 or some crap like that, and my friend just pulled him aside and told him he would pay $200 for it, and sold it. Alot of crazy things happen at EB Games. I just wish game stores were how they were about 5 or so years ago. Alot of crap is going to hell now, in my eyes at least.
