Wow that's awful. Makes sense why so many people just jack the price up obscenely high rather than cancel

Got a link to that rule? because in my experience - thats just not true.

And if you did get charged, you just request a final value fee credit via support.

    Fuck me...

Make a shill account or get a friend to buy it no matter what, just never do the transaction. You can mark the payment as sent on ebay right? Then mark it as dispatched and don't bother giving each other feedback.

If someone buys it, you owe the fee - that makes no sense at all.

If he were to do that, he'd still get charged the commission fee

I think its better not to use ebay for big things like that. I sold an item that came out to about $460 and ebay charged me like $40 for selling it, about $8 for shipping chargers (go figure), paypal charged me another $7 for transaction fee. I payed what I owed ebay that same day and then at the end of the month i found that they had subtracted the amount again. I called them and complained and at first the customer service representative wanted to make me feel like an idiot until I started going through the charges and then she agreed.

Same corporate family, but different business operations. paypal is something of a subsidiary company.

    I never cancel anything.

Check over all your items, don't sell them in 2 places at once. Test them if they're games or electronics.

Ebay does suck but people pay stupid money. So long as there's people willing to give me money then so be it.

Things get broken, lost, change your mind. You are allowed to cancel long as the item didn't sell.

They still get their listing fee after all. You cant get charged a final value fee, when there is no final value as the item didnt sell.

According to german law if you cancel an auction on ebay it goes to whoever was the highest bidder at the time it was canceled.
There was a case where someone bid 5€ on a car engine, the seller canceled the auction and a court decided the seller had to either pay 1000€ or send the engine to the guy who bid the 5€ and was highest bidder at the time of cancelation.

Yeah, they keep their operations very separate. So they can bounce you between each other in case of a dispute. I couldn't persuade ebay that I'd paid for something with paypal and not been refunded. They wouldn't accept anything I sent them, even after asking them what they'd accept they always found a different excuse. They couldn't pick up the phone and ask themselves.
