    The commission was $400?

I thought they were charging him the price he listed as starting. How expensive was the item for a $400 commission?

The fee should be around $30-$40. I've done a lot of selling on Ebay and the fees can start getting up there. Also that's a load of crap that they charge you the fee if you cancel the item. Ebay can suck one for sure.

I was hoping that google would had already made an answer to the ebay, according to some rumors a few years back. Ebay is merely a shadow of it's former glory non days, I'm more that positive to switch to a serious auction website over ebay.

Anyone else having a serious problem with buyers not completing purchases? I've had maybe 10 this past couple of weeks ..... Where's the negative feedback button when you need it!

I've canceled over a dozen transactions and have been refunded the final value fee. After the item sold and I was put off by the buyer being lowfeedback/new registration/etc, I would refund, and then go to Cancel Transaction, and use reason "other" (if it makes a difference). As long as the buyer mutually agrees, or they don't respond over the course of a week, you get the fee credit back.

I've never not gotten it back :\

What Kev has done is cancel a bid and end the item early, which eBay charges for.. in the US, at least:

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/end_early.html#fees

I don't know why users from the UK and Australia are on his case about this - you all know full well that eBay UK, eBay US and eBay Australia are somewhat separate and some introduce rules before others - look at the multiple items postage limitation, for example. That was introduced in the US first, where you could find yourself selling someone 100 DVDs and only be allowed to charge $8 postage!

You need to get someone to buy it, not pay and then mutually cancel the order then.

But thats ridiculous and if they get into the UK - I will never sell on ebay again. I am amazed people have not been up in arms about that

Please let us know how it turns out. I find it unfair for them to do this. If the item didn't sell and was cancelled, why charge then?

Id imagine its because people are contacting the high bidder - arranging to sell off ebay and then cancelling the auction, so fees dont get paid.

But this will cause too much collateral damage.

Australian forum members may recall the scally-wag behaviour of ebay Australia a few years ago. They tried to make payments only either Paypal or COD only! It doesn't have to be said Ebay AU copped so much flak over it and many people left and joined Oztion.... Ebay Au realized their error and reversed THAT awesome idea lol!

It still doesn't make sense, I thought commission was only if the item sold - then eBay take a percentage.

A cancelled auction should never, never, never be charged ANYTHING eBay did jack shit to help sell the item lol. I see many "ended" auctions saying "the auction is no longer, because the item is now unavailable"

Yeah, but thats just the same as Americans getting charged to send and RECEIVE text messages. Basically, they seem to get screwed.... A LOT

It is. This is for an auction that had bids before cancellation. And it's NOT commission, it's a "charge" lol

Sounds like you should list everything with a high (ish) BIN and accept offers, rather than auction/bids.
