I think you mean decimal point. A comma wouldn't make a difference.

    $50,200 = $50200

    $502,00 = incorrectly formatted but still $50200.

    $502.00 = $502

    ;-)

Europeans have an annoying habit of using commas instead of decimal points. It's wrong. WRONG, I tell thee!!

It's not wrong. In some countries you use a comma as the decimal point and a dot for grouping digits, in other countries it's vice versa.

In Germany, for example, you would write one million as:
    1.000.000,00

Whereas in the US, you would write:
    1,000,000.00

Two and a half hours to go with no bids, though there are some watchers! As long as there is one bid I'm happy!

Hehe, well that's a good point! That said, the British traditionally followed another method... spaces!

Yes, it's just another method of formatting it, but using decimal points as the decimal point makes more sense. You hit the decimal point button on a calculator, not a comma. Or are German calculators different?

Of course, the SI and BIPM standard is a half space! ;-) They say that numbers should be written fully, but may have spaces in groups of 3 to facilitate reading, but never commas or decimal points.

So basically, we've ended up with the Americans using commas as separators, Europeans (discounting the Brits) using commas as decimal points and vice versa, the BIPM saying they're both wrong, and one big, ugly mess!

Hit the nail on the head mate!

My dad can't understand the metric system, I use miles for long distances and metres for short ones... can't understand 20 feet... or 20km... my (our?) generation is a bit fucked... and that's before decimals!

The thing is that "decimal point" is a function of a character, not the character itself. What character is used as the decimal point is just an agreement between members of a group (e.g. German people, US people). The same applies to all other characters, letters, etc.

    ffe@ms3.hinet.net is the contact there.

Isn't it $200 for a SWC DX2 from them? Last I checked that was a reasonable price.
