Why do I get the feeling everybody and their brother is going to be selling their copies of Stadium Events now?

I actually got a good laugh the yesterday. I'm assuming because of the high selling auction, but someone called the store I work at and he asked if we had stadium events in. I kind of laughed to myself and honestly told him he had a one in a million shot at that. Of course though it is entirely possible. Last year we actually did get a Stadium Events cart in and since my friend happen to be the one that did the buy-in he naturally got first dibs as part of our house rule. I wish he wouldn't have sold it, but it was his to choose what to do.

This subject was touched on in a thread here and my post the other day was because of this recent trend but I wondered if people can shed some light.

Why is it becoming more common for Ebay sellers to not offer overseas shipping? When I last asked the seller said "I'm just not equipped for that"...

How does that work? Not equipped to send overseas? Is it that difficult in the US to post outside the country? It's rather funny when I think back over the years, the only problems I had when I was an ebay seller was with 2 Americans... and that was out of about 200 transactions with about 50% of them in the US.

Yes. Customs forms are a pain and the cost is way too high in most cases. Add in the problems with impatient buyers who do chargebacks and you have a lose-lose proposition.

You're joking about the customs form, right?

    Contents: video game
    Value: $xxx
Weight: (usually the Post Office or online sw fills this out)
    Item is a: gift
    Signed: John Hancock

Are Americans really THAT lazy that this becomes a hassle?

Tell buyers you'll only ship abroad with tracking and how much that'll cost in advance and you're sorted. Point out it'll probably take 2 weeks to arrive by snail mail, or you could use a courier for extra to get that down to 3-5 days.

As for the cost, the buyer is paying so who cares?!

That is for items under a certain weight, a really small low weight. Anything heavier is the bigger pain in the ass form.

I've never been able to use the simplified form for anything (single book, game, etc.). The last time I shipped overseas, it took about half an hour to fill out the form for a single video game. It's not so much of a hassle as it is not worth the time to do so for a low profit sale.

I try to imagine what sort of a form that was, lol. Anytime I send a package it's two crosses, two words ("old CD") and a signature. However huge packages I got from Japan, the sender filled out a comparably short customs form, even for 10kg+ weighing parcels.

Note that I've directly linked to the Royal Mail and USPS sample images. Here's a 2976 in action:

Keep in mind, that picture of the green form is less than half of the form in the first picture. The larger space on the right has to be filled out as well, and that is the complete shipping address of both the shipper and the ship-to address, plus date & signature. Not a huge deal, but writing out a bunch of foreign addresses can get tedious... But it seems like most packages aren't an option for the 'little form' anymore.

Usually, if it's anything over 8oz or something pathetically small like that, we have to use this form:
Here's what has to be filled out:

    To: Address
    From: Address
    Detailed description
    quantity of items
    weight per item
    total gross weight
    value per item
    total value of package
    Check airmail/surface mail
    Check Gift/Documents/Other, etc.
    Date & Sign
    Insured amount (if insured)
Postage fees for insurance (if insured)
    Total postage and fees combined
Check what to do in case of non delivery

All while pressing hard enough to make 6 copies...

(Some of this can be filled out by the postal employee if you don't know it, like weight and cost of insurance, but that just adds time.)

You also can't attach the label to the box in advance since the postal employee has to add a little bit of info to the form, and then individually stamp each of the 6 pages with a date-stamp.

If you want to insure the shipment, the declared value has to be the same as the insured value (thus you can't just say it's worth $10 and insure it for $200), so unless you don't want to insure it, you can't get around import fees.

The form is annoying, tedious, and just a general pain-in-the-ass... Doing one isn't so bad, but if you have to fill out 5-10 of them, it can take a significant amount of time.

And, when shipping overseas, you usually HAVE to go to the post office and wait in line regardless of whether you have to postage pre-paid or not... For local delivery you can just throw the postaged package in the drop box and leave.

That's why international shipping has become a real pain...
