I'm not saying all Americans are lazy but you're not painting a very good picture here. Having to write an address or two.... having to get in the the line to post something.....

Hey, I used to walk 5 minutes to my local post office but now have to go either 30 minutes on foot or get in the car thanks to Royal Mail closing many of it's sub post offices. We could all compain about how difficult posting things can be but at the end of the day do you not just want the best price for what you sell?

I recently won an auction (the one I aluded to above) for about $100, had 3 different US sellers shipped to the UK I would have ended up paying over $300 for the same item. Now I will pay Borderlink (cheers T_chan) $40 to ship to me. Seems that "long" form lost somone a tidy chunk of change in this one instance.

The green form is 2976 - you're showing me 2976-A. You're making more work for yourself by using that form!! Look at the one that says SAMPLE - DO NOT MAIL. That IS the green form with the extra half.

I can clearly see that the extra info other than the green bit is your details, their details, another signature. And yes, if you post something booking online with a courier, you CAN fill all that out online and print it.

Heh. Too bad that's the common PAL version and not the rare NTSC-U/C version. Someone's making bank on idiots. ;)

Basically PAL and NTSC-J versions = common.

    Only NTSC-U/C = super rare.

It's not just Americans. True, I've seen plenty of American sellers refuse to ship overseas. I've seen plenty of UK and Euro sellers refuse to ship overseas. I've seen plenty of Japanese sellers refuse to ship overseas.

Customs forms are one thing, but probably the most minor. There's the currency hassle (try explaining to a foreign bidder that he/she has to pay more then the XE.com spot rate when converting to your currency), the shipping time hassle (no sir, picking the cheapest overseas shipping rate does NOT mean you'll get your item within a week), dealing with chargebacks from impatient buyers, having buyers bitch up a storm because you tell them that you want them to buy insurance, etc. etc.

Hell, just look to this forum for examples of people who know each other yet still had issues with international shipping.

    http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25741

Karsten bought an item from Jackhead and went with the cheapest shipping option (no insurance). When the item hadn't arrived in 2-3 days (it ended up taking a week) he was already posting in the forum wanting to know the status of the shipment.

Then there is the Jamtex and Adol issue that Adol always brings up. Adol bought an item from Jamtex and refused insurance, also going with the cheapest shipping option. When the item never showed up, Adol decided to label Jamtex a scammer and demanded a full refund rather than admitting that he bore the risk of a lost package by turning down the insurance option.

In short, there are many hassles when dealing international that are mitigated when dealing within one's own country (mostly due to distance issues). After you've been burned once or twice by a buyer it's completely understandable that a seller wouldn't want to take the risk again.

Sure, having to write an address or two isn't a big deal. But a lot of people sell a LOT of things on eBay. The last time I listed stuff I sold nearly 30 items at once. 21 of them went to overseas bidders. It took me over 4 hours to fill out the customs forms, nearly an hour wait in line, and it takes about 5 minutes or so to process each package (so that's another 1.5 hours at least just to get them all processed and shipped). I've now spent 6.5 hours just in filling out forms and standing in line at the post office. I also do this during my lunch hour at work, which becomes a lunch 2.5 hours. Fortunately, I have a cool boss that doesn't mind, not everyone may be so lucky.

_I_ ship internationally, I don't really mind all that much, but I understand why people that sell 100's of things a month don't want to mess with it. And that's just on the shipping side of things. Remember, according to eBay policy, it's the _SHIPPERS_ responsibility to insure and track the package (regardless of whether the seller agrees to pay for it), so if you choose not to do this, and the buyer decides he wants to rip you off, there's nothing you can do about it.

Most people, in all honesty, just want a nice, simple transaction with the least hassles. That's domestic only. When I sell something for $100, and I see the backup bidder that bid $95 was in the US, I realize that for $5 I'd rather just deal with local shipping...

Uh, you are missing the point. You (the shipper) DOES NOT HAVE A CHOICE. The Post Office TELLS you which one to use. You show up with a bunch of 2976 forms all filled out, and they hand you a bunch of 2976-A forms to use instead. Some countries won't accept the green form AT ALL. Doesn't matter if it's a Hot Wheels car in an envelope, they require the large form. The green form can only be used on very small packages (by measure and/or weight). I forget the size restriction, you can find it on their website.

I know, and that's what I said in my previous Email. The poster was showing the 'simple' green form with 3 things filled out. I didn't know if he realized there's also another half with addresses filled out. Trust me, writing down 42 address just gets old after a while. If the item is selling for $100s, sure it's worth it. If it's 21 items that sold for $5 each, it's not.

Not everyone uses online shipping services, and you still have to fill in those details. Just because you can type them or copy/paste doesn't make it any more annoying...

On average, shipping internationally takes about 80% longer PER PACKAGE. If you are selling 100 items, that can take an entire weekend to get together... That's simply not worth it to some people.

Project cabinet being sold in Austria. I know a couple of Austrian members are always interested in the arcade material, so here's your opportunity to get your hands on a project Jaleco Pony III.

I am not the seller, but I know him and he is excellent.

    great price

anyways, my old roomate had one of these, theyre more of a hassle than they are cool tbh, controllers and everything plug into the back so you have to either site face up against the TV or drag the whole behemoth out on the floor.. its also a bitch when the connectors start acting up..

    does look pretty cool tho.
