Your friend sounds like a trader, @twinkie2001. They should have an eBay shop... then you'd only need to list the shop in the eBay shop thread.

Please stop spamming the thread with your friends' items. Why not just say your friend has some items and link to their listings page? At any rate, you're basically bumping your post more frequently than once every 7 days, which is against the rules... and as your friend seems to be a trader, you don't really need to keep listing the same items over and over again.

So I have a question..

No offense to the USA sellers who ships trough Ebay Global Shipping, but what is the point?

You ship it to ebay, Ebay Taxed the Buyer, repack it.. and ebay sends it over. pretty bullsh*t to me.
I see more and more sellers going this and sometimes the "Tax" is 1/3rd of the actual item price!


why not put in a box with some foam... --> ship to buyer..

 

It's not just eBay USA. And it's ease for the sellers. No having to calculate international shipping fees - it's done for you. Customs fees are added, so buyers know what they'll pay (you can't legally avoid customs fees). And there's protection against bad feedback once they have the item.

It's really expensive to the buyer.

I've used for some things that I wanted immediatelly, but it's very expensive.

But if it's so easy to the seller, what can we do? And some people is afraid to send because some items got lost or worse, some bad buyers just refused to take the item at customs because the taxes was expensive. Some people do that, sadly.

 

I had my first experience with this recently, I bought a banjo kazooie small plush toy which said free postage but once I went to check out I was being charged $35 USD you post to Australia, no way should it cost anywhere near that so I refused to go ahead with the purchase.

 

Same for a Hot Wheels toy, shipping is like $20-$30.. For a small toy car it shouldn't be that expensive.

Unfortunately, yes it is that expensive... They won't ship anything without insurance, and to some countries (Australia being one of them) you can only get insurance on Priority Mail or higher (Express, etc). The cheapest I can send a tiny 6-oz package to Australia by Priority mail is $26.50, and then I still have to add insurance to it.

The next cheapest option (in fact, the ONLY other option) is 'First Class Mail', and that starts at $13, but I can't get insurance for it. So you might be able to talk a seller into using that and not opting for insurance, but you probably won't be able to get eBay's Global Shipping program to opt out of insuring the package, no matter what it is...

The US Post Office has made it ridiculously expensive to ship things overseas. There used to be a 'surface mail' option (by ship/boat) that would probably only cost $3, but could take 6 weeks to get there... That's not even an option anymore, airmail is the only way they ship.

And now several countries won't accept insurance unless it's shipped Priority Mail (which as mentioned above is generally at least twice as expensive). For at least one country/territory (The UK), insurance isn't even available on Priority anymore (this is a very recent change I believe). I have to ship Express Mail to get insurance, so the starting price for a tiny 6oz package is $56.50 if I want it insured...

This is one of the main reasons why eBay sellers don't like shipping overseas from the US anymore... Once we tell someone what it's going to cost to ship it, they freak out and refuse to pay. For inexpensive things, it can frequently cost more than the item itself to ship it, and people just think we are trying to increase our profits by over-charging the shipping...

 

I have frequently bought items off eBay and had to stump up more money for postage than the item itself. I've purchased Dreamcasts with controllers and games cheaper than the cost of postage, it's getting ridiculous. I've also held off purchasing items or looked elsewhere because of the exorbitant postage fees on eBay...

I have one more point to add. First Class International service only has tracking service to a handful of countries. Very few eBay sellers will forgo the tracking service and sacrafice any chance of seller protection. Anyone that sells on eBay knows that it is a dirty, nasty and expensive place to sell. Most sellers experice fraud rates of 8-13% on international sales, depending on the country. So, while I understand the multitude of complaints about shipping costs from buyers I also understand why US sellers use the Global Shipping program or don't ship internationally at all. There is no trust on eBay and no one likes getting ripped off.
