Aargh! My first negative in ages, from a buyer in Germany who bought two 'big box' PC games from me. Apparently one is damaged, but rather than contact me to sort it (he would have got a full refind!), he just lands me with a negative! Either he did not pay attention to the picture and description (Item number 130592158947 and I would not class the item as damaged), or the postal service played football with the box I sent it in, but now my fault there... If the other game got to him OK, I can't work out why this one did not! A neg for a sale of £8.99... Why are people so fucking dumb?
had similar problems with stuff sent to europe, mainly portugal and italy but that says nothing its luck of the draw really and unfortunately ebay sides with the idiots
I got my first negative in 8 years of eBay for selling something described as used when the stupid buyer expected a new product, for whatever reason (was described as used, was marked as used in the product details, had a picture... stupid stupid eBayer).
Almost had a negative from a buyer who didn't read my listing properly and complained that the item had scratches and marks. I had to tell him that my listing stated that it worked like new but that of course i had listed it as used and i had explained it may show signs of this. I've always put a line at the end of my auctions stating that I describe the item as best as i can and that any potential buyer should contact me if they need any more info otherwise i'm not going to be responsible because the buyer has not read my description.
good point but unfortunately they can still leave you negative feedback if they wish and ebay wont care
Well, what a useful comment, given you have no idea how I packed them! Reply from the buyer: Baldurs gate arrived in good condition and quake2 is in terrible condition, how it could be? The outer box is broken i can send you foto of two packs if you need it. Excellent, so clearly the box has been damaged on the side with the Quake 2, and he decides that is my problem, rather than thinking it might have something to do with the postal service. As much as I use eBay all the time, this is the kind of crap that does my head it...
Do you want to know what countries have a shit postal system that throws your stuff about? Here are my top 5 Canada America France Italy and the UK. Places I expected to have issues with but never have are; Brazil Hungry Russia and Belgium I ship all over the world yet the countries you'd expect to be good are typically shit. Now in Japan, the postal service is fantastic. Your parcels are well looked after. When it rains they put your items in to plastic bags! Even stuff like bills are put in to plastic bags. Or at least where I live they are. Yakumo
Heh, I think it was from you I bought a lot of saturn stuff before Yakumo, on some video game auction site that I don't think exist since several years ago. I can't remember if it was SAL or not that it was shipped with but those guys really roughed the parcel up. Good thing the games where in those plastic cd carry boxes though. One of the boxes came smashed and I think one or two of the saturn cases where damaged but meh. I got the shipping I paid for, it was well parceled and got through customs unmolested so nothing to complain about really, usually it's more bothersome to deal with shipping damages than it's worth really. Since they usually want the one who sent the item to send in a claim and everything.
Hmm America well that is a bit odd well at least in my case I have bought from Germany, Canada ,Japan and the UK time and time again and It always comes neat in the mail. Now I have sold on eBay before and met my fare share of shit heads. Though when I buy from japan it always come to me better than I could have expected. Hong kong has always sent me crap.
Hmm, maybe it depends upon what part of the states you live in? ASSEMbler has some awful luck with his post and I've had stuff send from the stats that looks awful by the time I get it. The packing isn't the main problem but th fuckwits who handle the parcels. I recently sent a box of games to Canada and I know the packing was good enough for normal handling but I have a feeling that customs removed a lot of the hard plastic j used around the games when they were checking it because the seller said that his games were mostly smashed. Bloody customs! I even had them once slash a parcel I sent ruining the item inside. Yet, the bastards said it was posted like that. Yeah, right.
I've never had an issue with any countries in your "top 5", and I see that many (perhaps even most) people have trouble when sending stuff to Italy, but whenever I send there it is always a pleasant experience thankfully.
Europe's post is very dodgy, I know a lot of places that just don't ship there. Some eBay sellers just deny everything and usually contacting them doesn't help, I've been through it and it's a pain in the ass trying to be the nice guy and getting spat at. I always give sellers a chance by communicating, as giving negative feedback outright is plain rude. When something is damaged, I'd always ask for a photo (some people lie about it). As many of you know, be careful of the certain countries postal services can be full of shit. Never avoid on $5 worth of packaging.
I guess Georgia just had good postal workers. All my packages I have bought from japan was in your regular cardboard box with a ton of Japanese newspaper as packing which was a neat little treat I admit still don't know why carpet service would be using that cat from Doraemon as a mascot of sorts and I really don't need to know. I also Bought a piece n64 dev hardware from our fellow member Stefan.iro who lives in Germany and It came In a regular cardboard box with bubble wrap and wasn't damaged at all In fact I could call the item like new and would be correct.
I think I mentioned this in another eBay thread; I recently made the mistake of selling a few items on there after being away from them as a seller for several years. I was floored when I was told that their policy change is as a seller you are not even allowed to mention insurance being optional to a buyer. It then went on to say their shotgun solution to all shipping problems fall squarely in the seller's lap and they are fully responsible for it no matter what the circumstances. Even an idiot can tell if a damaged package is caused by the shipping carrier or poor packaging on the seller's behalf.
I have forgotten who it was but I ordered 10x10 packs of mini DVD-Rs for someone here on the board who lives in Berlin. Shipped them dirt cheap "First Class Mail" which, for example, took only 2 weeks to get a Dreamcast from me in California to LeGit in the UK. Me to Berlin? Two and a half months. OTOH that same shipping method got a Sega Saturn modchip from me to Norway in less than a week somehow.
Tax rapists (aka customs) in Germany like to hold back items for weeks on end before contacting the recipient. I know because by now I have my own coffee mug at the customs office...
Couldn't agree more, some parcels get packaged extremely well but end up damaged because whoever was delivering it mis-handled things. I once saw a courier go into the back of his van to get a parcel and he picked up several one by one which weren't the ones needed and each time he just threw them back in the van without a care.
