Says restocking soon. Guess the seller jacked the price up so it wouldn't sell while he gets restocked. Cancelling and relisting can cost a bit of money so seller don't cancel or end any listing.

 

These days there are scammers left right and centre selling a dumped game and writing in the date of e3 and e3 version

Man, too bad you can't just look up online and realize that official beta discs weren't just burned using off the shelf CD-Rs, especially given that CD burners were for the most part professional at that time and few, if any, places sold blank CD-Rs in 1997.

 

Huh? Many official PlayStation prototypes were on generic CD-Rs. While I don't know the history of this particular disc, the seller has sold other legitimate rare gaming items, so it is certainly plausible that this is indeed a legitimate, original disc. Online dumps have to originate from somewhere, you know, and it certainly isn't uncommon for many legitimate copies of the same prototype build to exist, especially when it was used for a demo kiosk.

That being said, the fact that this build has been dumped and shared would certainly reduce the value of this disc immensely, even a legitimate one.

 

Huh...I have a Saturn proto on one of those TDK CD-R's. The file dates of all the files matches the date written on the disc. Is that something you could fake?

 

Theres always the odd geezer who goes into his attic digs out his PC and finds some cdrs he doesn't want so lists it on eBay scammers see the dates then write it on the disc

Someone could certainly duplicate a prototype disc using an era-appropriate CD-R and label it with whatever they want. I've even seen a seller who had photocopied labels off of legit prototypes and produced forged prototype cartridges, even trying to mimic the damages to the original labels on his forgeries (and based on an account of a Japanese collector, perhaps trying to age/stain the things with soy sauce, lol). Nevertheless, outside of obvious tells of a forgery or actual hard evidence, it seems hasty to accuse someone of selling a fake simply because the data is already available online. It certainly raises that potential, yes, but for all I know that is indeed one of the original discs burned by a Konami employee.

At computer shows around that time, they held at local hotels, a single CD-R would be $10.00 to $12.00 each.

You could get discs from 1997, boot up your PC and set the BIOS date to August 13, 1997 and start burning discs.

Back then, Frisbees were common and we would make a border around the LAN room ceiling out of all the error CD's that were made. Good times.

 

Well i don't think the data for mine is readily available online, it was just interesting to see the same brand of CD-R on another game from the same era and seeing people say it could be fake.
