@mods: if this in the wrong section, pls move...

    SCAMMER ALERT: Ebay seller discount_monkey

    Consoles 4 U
    Paul Mellors
    Unit 4, South Villas
    Stacksteads
    Bacup
    Lancashire
    OL13 0RJ

    United Kingdom Telefon: 01706|256829
    Fax: 01274 498696
    E-Mail: paul@consoles4u.co.uk

I was going to buy a brand new old stock PS3, namely the following pictured unit:

    http://cgi.ebay.at/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220708295451#ht_3321wt_907

I was under the impression that this is the one with backwards compatibility, so I was going to buy it from the seller, discount_monkey.

His feedback is overall positive and he run his own business.

I dont have Paypal bc I´ve got fucked before for several thousand bucks using paypal so bleh...

I asked the seller if I could pay with bank transfer and he said yeah, no problem. I sent the money and the next day a friend told me that this is the wrong PS3 model...

So I wrote a mail to the seller and told him that I was under a wrong impression and that he should send my money back, he has a "no quibble" money back guarantee so yeah...

He told me ok, he will send it back but never did that.

I bought from him on January 18th, noticed my mistake next day and since then, he never answered any of my mails...

I told my bank to get my money back, they´re on it.

I was thinking if anyone here on the boards live near this faggot, I´d love to see that this piece of shit gets paid a visit and a good smack in the kisser...

So, BEWARE OF THE EBAY SELLER DISCOUNT_MONKEY HE RIPPED ME FOR 436 EUROS.:dammit:

aww Is there any possibility to contact your bank or something ?

In fact, I already had some Paypal problems but only outside of ebay usage. Dunno what other members think, but at contrary it's maybe better to use paypal to pay on ebay I think. It's the only method to be refunded :-(

Strange that the telephone number is a Lancashire number but the fax has a Bradford STD; that's where I live!

    Let me do some digging!

    What can we do now?

If I offer you a reward for kicking my money out of him, would this be a crime lol...

Nah, for real... if there is anything you can do, please go on and do it. I will reward you of course.

Edit: Cyantist: Thats awesome, maybe you could see whats going on... reward stands for you also of course.

Bacup isn't far from me to be honest but as I have recently lost my driving licence it is impractical for me to go and thump him. Its only a bus ride or two away (albeit a longish journey because of all of the stops) but I don't go out so much these days, especially not so much in that direction. I live in a shithole (who doesn't these days?) but Bacup is a bigger shithole lol. I think my sister may be close to him though.

EDIT: His Bacup address is only a 10.2 mile drive away, except now I'm no longer driving =/ Funnily enough I've be looking at old stock phatboy PS3 this evening for myself for OtherOS/PS2 Emu as I'd prefer to keep my slim unmolested!

EDIT some more: I could give him a call if you like? I'd need to find a way to record the conversation first though. If he gets cocky with me then perhaps I'd thump him :p Also a close friend of mine has a solictors office 3.4 miles away from his Bradistan home (from his .co.uk whois). I could perhaps either ask him to drop off the money at the office, or maybe ask my solicitor friend to write him a letter on headed paper? The last option may work but is the least preferable - my close solicitor friend does favours for me, but for friend of a friend the request may be a tall order as he does get quite busy, but not impossible. If the other options work though it may not be necessary.

    In the meantime

    "Returns Policy

You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).

You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).

If you need to return an item, simply login to your account, view the order using the "Complete Orders" link under the My Account menu and click the Return Item(s) button. We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item."

Thats what I thought but in fairness the PS3 is falsely advertised as the launch model, which it isn't as the launch model here was the CECHCXX, which didn't come in 40gb IIRC.

Perhaps G0dlike should have done a little bit of research with regards to models and not been naive but Trading Standards may be on the side of G0dlike due to 'not as described'.

Also as he has not received a PS3 or a refund it is a little bit scammy if you look at it that way, though ordinarily a shop here is not obliged to do returns unless it is defective or falsely advertised and they do so on wrong purchases for good publicity.

I did buy the wrong item but I found out that its the wrong one and told the seller that it was a mistake, he didnt even ship the PS3 nor received the money at the point when I told him that I was wrong with the item, I bought it on January 18th and told him next day that I bought the wrong one...

So, nothing easier to just send the money back... Hell, I even offered him to keep 20 Euros for the manipulation costs and stuff...

Going round to this guys house really needs to be a last resort.

Exhaust all the other options first (i.e see what your bank comes back with) and we can take it from there mate.

give it some time as well. Far as I know wire transfers can take some time. Any time I wired from my bank to my mothers in the states it would take 5 buisness days.

Damn mate that sucks, if you had wired the money on the 18th he has surely had it in his account for over a week now. I would send a message to him threatening legal action/contact of the authorities, if he doesn't promptly return your money.

If you contacted him within 24-48 hours and the money hadn't been received nor the item shipped and u offered for him to keep $20 for the trouble then you have done more than enough as a buyer... plus if that is a euro console? it would be a backwards comp. one which it is not, so he did misrepresent his item. Not a launch console nor rare.

Hope you get funds back quick man.

I would agree that PayPal is most certainly worth it on eBay, and the best method for receiving a refund. Not only do you have the buyer protection, but also it could be much easier to resolve a refund via PayPal. On top of that, you may find that he can't refund your payment - if he has to send you a new payment back, then he has to pay a charge plus conversion fees, which may not please him too much!

Don't forget, as mentioned above, you will find a bank transfer is probably as slow as a cheque, i.e. it could take 5 WORKING days. You sent payment on 18 January? It may not have arrived until 25 January. Were he to refund you immediately on the 25, it may not arrive in your account until 1 February. You've only given him bare minimum time before complaining to us, really!

Did you contact him via eBay, via his e-mail mentioned above, or via the customer services e-mail address on the auction?

Have you tried calling him? Did you try the 0844 number? If not, why not? Your English seems pretty good, and you can get a calling card for cheap calls to the UK (check if it covers 0844, or use the 01706 number to be safe). Even without a calling card, isn't a few Euros on a phone call better than losing hundreds? Sometimes people can't get to their computer for whatever reason. If you're polite, a friendly call may well speed things up - even if it embarrasses him into taking action.

Sorry if the above seems basic and you've done it all, but it's worth pointing out!

I know it doesn't apply here, but the other one to remember is to always get tracking and insurance - when you actually have the item shipped! ;-)

I would have called him back, in case it was a phone fault. Tell him you're trying to work it out amicably, but if he's going to ignore you and hang up, you'll report him to eBay and Trading Standards. And yes, do report him to both.

You have his bank details - call his local branch (you may be able to search what branch the sort code is, to be sure) and ask if a refund has been initiated.
