It's happened that my dad posted a letter with a tracking number, and the post office lost it. However they delivered the letter, just got no one to sign it. Why when it comes to tracking, here I don't think it's worth the extra money for. It's screwed me other many times.

I almost never have tracking on my packages unless the buyer request this (it's far more expensive over here).
That's why I always make a pic of the stamped package and scan in a receipt of payment with exact shipping costs (if possible).
Once the package is sent out, I supply these to the buyer and when I get notice of a safe arrival they get deleted.

I've had a few sellers flake out after end of auction. I've lost track of "someone died in my family" as an excuse not to ship anything for over 2 weeks (and eventually cancel auction and refund me)

The last one I won an Intellivision 2 with Atari adapter for very cheap. It went very cheap because the seller can't spell intellivision correctly at all and never mentioned the 2600 adapter. He claimed it got dropped and smashed. I asked for picture, he said he didn't have camera (yet somehow he was able to take really nice pictures for the original listing)

I did see the lot relisted under different seller ID, but it was the exact same picture, exact same description, and exact same ships-from city. He started at higher bid amount and corrected the title typo plus added the 2600 adapter info.

I told him I'd take the "smashed lot" anyway as I liked to fix it. 2 weeks went by with no response before I opened dispute as I never got refunded or the allegedly smashed remains of the stuff. I contacted eBay and explained, including the auction # of the new listing by the same person with different ID and all. eBay ruled in my favor and refunded me. I left the seller a neg for being dishonest and not delivering what I paid for. The account still hasn't been used at all. His second account is still selling games and now earned multiple negs for non delivery :/

I've had a few seller claim items I paid for was shipped but somehow couldn't provide tracking or a copy of receipt from post office. Only idiot don't offer proof of shipping, and a real big fool to not provide a proof on a $500 item. In all 4 cases I can remember from last year, 3 auction items never arrived and one arrived almost 2 weeks after I opened dispute and won refund. The seller listed as ship from USA, the item I got (only $16) came from China and so I never bothered to repay him. :x I find it funny that a lot of these sellers with poor shipping record also got nice collection of negs for non delivery.

I also had a seller who couldn't keep straight story on why he was slow to ship. he didn't ship until 9 or 10 days later and explained to me his son was sick in hospital. When I got the item, I contacted him to let him know I got it and asked if his daughter is still in the hospital or released. He responded she was released. I responded and pointed out son vs daughter gaff. No response at all. OOPS!!!! lol...

    Free lessons for the sellers:
1- don't start bid too cheap. It may end too cheap as well, and if you can't afford that be sure to start bid higher.
2- always get the tracking. Tracking is free if you pay through Paypal for priority mail or with UPS and FedEx, and very inexpensive for USPS first class or parcel. Tracking cost will vary with other countries and with other shipping service.
3- if you're going to be late with shipping, let the buyer know ASAP. Waiting 2 or 3 weeks is asking to get negged and reported to eBay.
4- don't use moldy old excuse like death in family, item somehow got broken after auction ended, and especially never mention you sold it to someone else outside of eBay as that's ground for suspension.
6- if you mess up such as trying to cancel too-cheap listing or something, don't expect the buyer to accept your request to cancel auction for FVF refund. They buyer may refuse it to spite you for your dishonesty.

Proof of shipping doesnt mean jack shit to ebay or paypal. You need proof of delivery.

Even if you provide a tracking number, if it shows as not delivered - they wont care. Proof you shipped it means nothing, they need to know it actually arrived.

Though with proper tracking, you can reopen a dispute you lost once it updates as delivered and get your money back (as the seller)

Hence why it's best to ALWAYS use tracked shipping methods only!

It was just a response to the guy about saying only idiots dont get proof of shipping.

I never bother on items I have sent without tracking - as I said above, its completely useless in a dispute anyway.

So if someone ordered something cheap from me and it was sent untracked - I wouldnt be able to show a receipt either and I am very experienced with ebay/paypal/selling stuff. So its certainly not grounds to immediately not believe the seller.
