The actual value is around that price. It's just that a couple of....people..bid crazy amounts of money for a few lately. That said, yes I'm tempted as well.
I would've bought it instantly a while ago, now that I got a modded Saturn I don't need it as much.

Unofficial? I remember seeing those being sold in retail stores, along with the Japanese equivalent (SFC Jr.). It's just a second model Super NES Console.

I just don't remember there ever being a PAL version. Maybe it was modded to play PAL (By looking at the switch on the back).

Interesting point; imho there is no such thing as "actual value". If a bunch of people decide to bid crazy amounts for it then the actual value just went up.

A neo geo AES cart of Metal Slug doesnt have any more value than a crossed swords; its just the fact that people are willing to pay $1000+ for the same chips that contain some different code that makes it more expensive.

It a 2nd model snes moded with a pal/ntsc switch. Nothing special at all.

I know they sold these for awhile in the US.

And its possible that one sold in the auction is a euro one cause I know the snes had the same logo in europe.

I can only see this benfiting europeans who often dealt with the nightmare of unoptimzed translations(resulting in squashed screen and slower speed).

This model however suffers from lack of rgb encoder and no svideo support. So you can only use composite or rf on it.

I'd have to disagree as I often see the Saturn system discs trading in the $200+ range per disc.

As always though, perceptions of cost vary. $100 for a system disc is a great deal IMHO.

The 200+ prices are from the last half year, they always were around 100-150 max. I'd like to believe I've seen a fair few of them in the last eight years I've been using ebay. Anyway, back on topic.

Yup, I bought one myself near/at the end of the SNES's life (along with Super Mario RPG), woot. The console came bundled with Zelda, it was a Target exclusive says the box!

It's a collector market. Rare and Prototype units go for more money.

I suppose a PEZ collector would look as a game collector and say, "Sapphire is an old game for an old system. Why would anyone pay hundreds of dollars for it. What the heck is going on?"

    ;)
