You know what? I was almost sure about that but I didn't post it: you should know that sometimes also official developers use backup units for developing and testing.
Once a magazine reviewer told me that Sega gave them a Mega Drive title to review...on a floppy disk for the Megabackup!
So it "may" be official. "May".

A black game boy in a grey game boy box, with a "limited edition" which looks like a sticker, an ugly wario and moreover, a bad looking game boy (I don't know why, but it looks like a standard grey one with something black over it, like a protection stuff or whatsoever)

    interesting.

the original Black gameboy (Colored) series, has different colour buttons as seen niah:

As such, this might be legit, since it has the ORIGINAL grey's buttons on a black suit, without red markings.

Original gameboy with black replacement shell? Perhaps

Surely a standard console, painted. But is this official? Has anyone heard about this competiton in the UK in 1993-1994?
I've just discovered a limited Fiorentina edition (only for the Italian market) so I may think that it's legit. Seller has good feedbacks.

It looks just like an original Game Boy painted. There's a photo of the reverse side of it which looks like they've painted over the regular EU and Canada radio interference testing sticker that these gameboys usually have. If he won it in a competition, he should be able to find some reference to the competition itself (like a winning letter, or the postage box it came it etc...). Sounds dodge....

    I wrote him:

Hello! We can't find any info about the competitions you are referring to. Since this is a standard Game Boy with the case painted in black, it would be great if you could give more informations about the competition and prove the authenticity of the item you are selling. The whole community would be pleased to receive some fresh stories about the past of Nintendo's marketing!
    Thanks!!!

It's stated that it's painted. Well, why can't a radio station or a distributor have made a cheap LE to promote cheaply a (great) game? Anyway it's overpriced.
