Ecco the Dolphin: Sentinels of the Universe

Ecco the Dolphin is my favorite game series. Their was a ebay auction in 2007 for a katana with the unfinished Ecco the Dolphin: Sentinels of the Universe on it. I've tried to find more info on it, their are some post on here about it, but nothing really goes anywhere. I literally join this forum to see if I could find some help. I'll do anything to get this. Any info or help is appreciated.

You are also the owner of the GD-R with the playable build, right?

 

Yeah I bought the playable GD-R, the katana and a bunch of other stuff back when that auction happened. The auction was around November 2008 (8 years... jeez). I wanted to release it a long while ago, but I have been very busy unfortunately. I'm hoping to do it in a few months or so, it's dumped and ready.

It was quite a gamble too at the time, if I recall correctly only the Katana was up for auction, but I had a hunch the seller also had the GD-R, so I bid on it and won it. I talked to the seller a bit after winning it and he threw the GD-R into the lot (and a bunch of other cool stuff) as I think he liked what I plan to do with it.

All in all one of my favorite finds.

I really can't tell you what it would mean to me to have this available. I know a bunch of other ecco fanatics that feel the same way. Would I need a katana to play it?

 

The GD-R itself plays on a retail dreamcast with a system disc, but the dump should work on any Dreamcast without anything extra. A friend (who asked not to be named) made a selfbooting image for us that you can burn on a regular CD-R. It should also work in an emulator.

I was aiming for an x-mas release, but that deadline went by way too fast. I'm hoping I can do this in the spring/summer for real. Sorry for keeping everyone waiting.

Ecco the Dolphin has been a favorite series of mine for the last 20 years. I remember stumbling across this auction while looking for DC goods and bringing it to the attention of those with larger amounts of currency than myself.

Very pleased it ended up in drx's hands.

 

Same here. Too bad that Ecco: SoU wasn't moved to PS2 and released but i'm still happy that prototype is going to be released.

 

A few people have mentioned about releasing this in the past, the only thing that made it out the door was a corrupted build that obviously didn't work. If drx is planning to release this it will be interesting to compare the corrupted build. Exciting times!
