Tototek has a new flashcart for sale, called the ED64Plus. First I thought this would be an enhanced version of the Everdrive64, but it's a 'new' flashcart from Superufo/Blaze:

Does look like a ripoff of the Everdrive64 or is it licensed from krikzz?

NO this is a clone of the real EverDrive64 and not licensed. KRIKzz is not very happy about this. Hardware was copied from EverDrive64v1 and OS was stolen. If you respect KRIKzz and his work then you should buy official EverDrive64 from him or re-seller.

also for the price why bother, just get an official everdrive v2, I could see biting if it was like, half the cost, but at 1:1 i see no point

And it doesnt have a CIC in it either. You need to stack a cart on top

yeah, I assume that was a cost cutting measure, but the price isn't even any less than just getting an ed64v2, so.... wut

Id imagine it was so they could mass produce them - no need to stripe carts. But as you said - no price reduction.

Typical SuperUFO., stealing a product and changing the branding. They did the same thing to HD Loader when they released HD Advance.

Probably made some good cash off of it but people figured it out pretty quickly. With this thing being the same price I don't think people will be flocking to it - especially if the OS updates for the ED64 won't work on this piece of crap..

It's $75 cheaper than StoneAge's deluxe package from what I'm seeing. You obviously get what you pay for in this case

Well I am sure I could get Deluxe Edition close to $100 too if I stole KRIKzz's design and produced boards myself (obviously I would never do that). Deluxe Edition is not mass produced and it costs me considerably more than $100 to make. Not really a fair comparison considering these guys stole the ED64v1 design and OS. I think I am at a bit of disadvantage in this comparison.

Eww, is the N64 header on the top of the clone soldered by hand? Also, does the fake one accept firmware updates? Because if it does, maybe you could create new updates could somehow brick fake ones, if there's something different about them that can be detected. I seem to remember the DSTT team doing this for their flashcarts.

Simple. Detect the passthrough cart. If found at whatever address it's at, brick it.

Actually, I can see a couple advantages to doing passthrough, like nonstandard cart hardware. There's only a handful of cases like that though, so not really worth the effort.

Cart bios was modified, so, i can easily detect cloned carts.

Actually passthrough cart memory is not connected to n64 bus, only cic wires connected

Wow, so they totally get no advantage at all to having a passthrough besides the CIC... That's really pathetic. It took them long enough to dup it too.

To be honest, they only reason I haven't upgraded from my v64jr is specificly because it can handle the strange, special case stuff that ED64 can't. Admitantly the list is small, but things like the RTC in Animal Forest, the modem for Morita Shogi 64, and cheap tricks like reading data off cart using the uploaded ROM, effectively doubling cart size. Oh, and it can dump stuff ;*)

How are you doing the detection anyway? Or would you rather not say?

The main problem is even if KRIKzz updates his OS to not work with clones, the OS is already at such high compatibility that theres not much he can put in as an incentive to upgrade unless the new OS makes your n64 turn into some kind of sex slave

Right, plus once word spreads that it bricks your ED64 Plus people will stop upgrading.

There are two types of people that will buy the ED64 Plus. First will be people that don't care that they are screwing KRIKzz. These people I have no sympathy for. The second will be people who were basically tricked by the name "ED64 Plus" into thinking its an official KRIKzz product. These people I do feel sorry for a bit, because for people who are not part of the scene and are and ignorant to this issue you would be bricking their ED64 Plus when they really had no intention of screwing over anyone. You may be better served putting up nag screen that warns them that this isn't an official KRIKzz product with URL to his site.

this was always going to happen sooner or later with the supply issues on the everdrive, i'm just surprised it took so long.
