I miss the old EGM of the n64/PSX days where they would find obscue japanese games and preview them, with an notice that it might not reach our shores.

Farewell to EGM and the OLD STAFF...

My first EGM was the Sept '89 #3 featuring Wizards & Warriors 2: Ironsword / Fabio cover. There was no other magazine like them at the time. EGM was the cutting edge being the first with international gaming info. I'd have to say they're the ones who taught me the difference between West and the East versions of games. I'd soon start importing games from Japan because I was just that hardcore - lol

Every month i'd look forward to the new issue and it would just blow me away with Quarterman, International Outlook, and Review Crew ( though some of their ratings were insanely bullshit - i.e. Herzogs Zwei ). Then came Mega Play, SuperGaming, Super NES Buyers Guide, and EGM 2. Man, I spent serious coinage on their publications well into the mid '90s.

Founder Steve Harris / Sendai Publishing announced he was selling EGM to Ziff Davis. To me, that's when EGM began goin downhill. Most of the old guys had left. The new layout wasn't all that great. The screen shots were trivial at times. GameFan and Next Generation were becoming my favorites.

So EGM finally ended...Kinda sad I won't EVER see the mag on newsstands again. That's right, I was never an EGM subscriber. For almost a decade my EGMs were purchased straight from the stands. Sure I was paying more to get it earlier than the subscriber but at least my issues weren't partially ripped or whatever the hell the postage people would do to them. Anyways, farewell to EGM and the old Sendai staff :crying:

I'll leave this post with a link to my encounter with two of the original staff members of EGM - former Editor-in-Chief Ed Semrad and Review Crew member Martin Alessi @ WCES '93, Las Vegas.
