Evangelion Live action movie in the works

I heard rumours about that before. I can imagine it being awful, and probably 99% CG...

 

Anime license in Hollywood's hands = SHITE ! No question about it. We should all know better by now.

i read this i think a year ago, it's bound to be utter shite because you'd never be able to show the movie in the states if they stay true to the series.

 

Yeah they changed the names of the characters as well, Asuka is something like "Stephanie Peters" Rei is "Patricia Michaels" and Shinji is a 6'2" ex G.I. called "Steve McHardballs" or something stupid like that.

 

Man, I wanna change my name to Steve McHardballs. Either that or Phillip Thrustcock.

 

Yea, I've seen images of the props and some early cg. The characters suits have been re-designed as well as the eva units, and as has been stated the characters names have been changed as well. Its not due to be complete till about 2009-2010.

 

Well, if he is a big tough guy, he isnt going to be a whiny bitch like, Shinji. Whats Kowaru's name going to be? Michael Jackson? I might watch it for laughs, since I did watch FF the spirits within, knowing it would probably suck. I kinda want to see how good a job they did on the Evangelions and the angels. I do think this movie will appear on late night tv, two months after its debut on the screen, though!

 

Well you know how it will actually turn out:

All references to children, god, angels, human instrumentality, social engineering, religion etc will be gone, the "Angels" will become Russian "zombie chimpanze bioconstructs" and the Eva's will just be "big honking US grade military prototype robots" that they just so happened to be testing a few months before "General Chillkoksky" made his abhorrent creations.

It will look like a mega budget episode of Power Rangers and we will be 50/50 split over it being actually any good, same as with the RE/MK/SF movies.

Still, though - if it were similar to the original manga, who would be cool to play the parts?

I'd say, for example, Sandra Bullock would play a pretty cool Katsuragi, Gary Oldman should, of course, be Gendou Ikari, Meg Ryan should play Ritsuko, John Lithgow should play Fuyutsuki, Ben Affleck should play Ryouji Kaji, and the kids... probably some dumb Bimbette as Asuka, Lacey Chabert as Rei, and um.... someone very whiny as Shinji.

Heh, that would make the movie of the 90s, today!

till one day she met her man of dream - called Peter Tickles.

after married though for some strange reason she started to call herself Teresa again...

 

At least it will look good since Weta (the guys that did the LoTR trilogy) is doing the effects. That is about the only good thing I can say.

Maybe I'm just not big enough of a fanboy, but I'm willing to give the movie the benefit of the doubt until I see more than a handful of concept images, which - in the case of the human characters - were drawn as concepts of the outfits, not the people to be playing them.

I don't mind a bit of reinvention of the Eva universe, though from the titles on the concept images it doesn't look like the combining of characters that everyone was frothing at the mouth about is really going to happen.

I have to say, I really like the Evangelion designs in those concept images - they really help bring out the really creepy nature of the things that isn't immediately apparent in the anime until about halfway through.
