Considering all your replies, I've been thinking and I guess it's a sum of many things, like now I have less time to play because of university and work, and also I've got many personal issues on my mind lately, which might be bugging me.
As some said, also the money issue is involved, now I can get many games at once, thus when I was younger I only got games once in a while.
The quality of current gen games is not helping though, there are too many horrible games, and the ones which I consider fun are to be played with friends or over internet.
Of course there are some exceptions to the rule, such as Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion which hooked me up for lots of days. And one that really dissapointed me was ToZ:Twilight Princess, I got bored of it before finishing it : /

It happened a few months back for me and I'm sure its bound to hit again come summertime.

It's a breather, my head just says give a rest for two weeks. I do and then the zeal comes right back.

I'll echo that statement about playing things you missed the first time round.

I've felt like this for the last 10 or so years.
I still like gaming, but it seems I'm just as happy talking about a game
or watching someone else play it as I am actually playing it.

I find myself playing more NES/SNES stuff now then ever because the
fond memories make it more enjoyable then anything new lately.

I think Iam more like Johnny, in the opposite way. Right now i want to play more games, dont have a good computer to play them, but i still play my old favorite ones when i have a chance, i have a job, but always get some time to read some news, helping in some pages, and discovering new things everyday, so much to play and no time to do it :p

I agree that growing up has a lot to do with this.

Take for example my cousin: he was a BIG fishing fan, he didnt do nothing but that besides school. Suddently after college he stopped doing it, got a job, a wife (just came back from the wedding BTW) and now fishing is ancient history for him.

As for me, is really ironic that after years of begging my parents for game money, finally when I've enough money to buy any console I want I just feel like I dont want to spend it on that anymore.

Anyway, this reminds me the phrase "growing up means leaving everything you love behind"

    Not thats depressing...

Now that i think about it, i'm not playing so much anymore because i'm starting to suck. I mean, in online shooters, i used to be always on the top of the leaderboards, but now my kill/death ratio has diminished a lot. And it's not only happening online, i'm starting to suck on most of console games, and that makes me not wanting to play anymore.

    That's interesting.

In my case, when I stay like weeks or months whitout playing a racing game or a fighting game I usually play better.
Use to brake hard records and win more fights with mates. ^^'

I sucked at gaming when I was a kid, couldn't win a damn MK round ever!

But now is like every game is just too easy, and I beat them so easily that all thats left its a sensation of "thats all?"

That must be another reason why I'm not so eager to play new games these days...

With me it's weird. If I have never played a certain game before and I'm playing it for the first time, I get all into it due to the fact I don't know what's going to happen so that motivates me to go keep playing. If I've played and beat a game before and I remember most of the knowledge with it, it's hard for me to play that game again since I know what's going to happen.

Now I only play arcade and racing games, just pop the emulator and select the ROM, play for 5 minutes and end... Or Bimoji Training on the DS (don't kill me).

I've gotta do a huge clearout of gaming stuff, lastly I'm getting manga and I'm liking it a lot more than gaming, incredibly more fun. Games don't impress me anymore, and I think that is because of eBay.

Before, when I wanted a game I had to buy it off Fnac, El Corte Ingles... 60€/70€, and that is now... When the N64, I'd better shut up... 15000 fucking pesetas (135$ / 90€) for a single game, so I did play and replay all my games a lot more than now... Now I can just get whatever game for many systems used off eBay (MD games for 10-5€, anyone), or at Cash Converters.

This happened to me. Every so often I'll drag out the PSX or Saturn and play a game for an hour or so, but never with the intentions of beating it. I still play old PC games, but even then I have trouble committing to them. Hell, with my current save, I could probably beat X-Com within three to four hours of play, but I just can't find the time or patience. On top of this, I simply feel like I have better things to do.

I got fucked up on oxycodone and played River City Ransom the other night for about an hour. That was really fun, but I didn't feel compelled to finish the game or anything. It was simply a time-killer since I didn't have anything better to do at that particular moment.

I think it's just a part of getting older. Can't get into most games with the same intensity that I did as a youngster, playing for hours on end, but every now and then a Resident Evil 4 pops up and I'm back into the obsession for a little while.

Maybe it's a decrease in testosterone levels over the years or something?

When I was a kid and I did most of my gaming, my favourite games were "kiddy" games, with cute characters and little to no violence. I still got a hard-on when watching porn though, but I doubt games are that much related to androgens :p

It happened at the end of the 32bit era. I still enjoy games, but I don't have to have a particular new release and I'm not caught up in the latest gaming news or information. I bought a DC, PS2, GC, XBOX360, DS, PS3 but it's not a major passion for me anymore like it used to be.

I ran out of free time and games got overly complicated I guess. Also I grew up a lot (some might argue that point)

I lost it for awhile a long time ago. Once the Dreamcast died off I pretty much quit gaming, despite having an Xbox and Gamecube. It was apparent to me that a time as great as the one whilst Sega was making consoles would never come again... and that I might as well just quit caring.

From this I went back and just started collecting Saturn stuff. Which in turn lead to me picking up 2D shooters hardcore again. Which in turn lead me to get back into gaming, which in turn lead me to snag an Xbox360 and Nintendo Wii at launch. I guess since Sega's time is so far gone, that period is but a distant memory to me, and thus I can play the stuff getting shoveled out now with a smile alongside everyone else.

Though I'll be damned if a year goes by that my Saturn isn't hooked up for the majority of it. Saturn >>>>>> everything. It may not have the MOST good games, but it has the BEST games.

the 32bit/64bit era had amazing games - still most of my favourites lie in that period of time.

So true, those were the golden ages :icon_bigg

Now I'm trying to focus on getting more 32/64 bit stuff for my collection.

16bit were the golden ages, pretty much everything that was done back then paved the way for the games that were yet to come: from FMW to polygon graphics, and even modems for online play, theres nothing today or in the generations between that wasnt somehow tested back in the 16bit.

In those days there were real risk takers in this industry, not like today. The jump from cart to CD, from 2D to basic 3D. For us to have a similar experience now, companies would've to release an holographic game, even if its in a rudimentary form.

The 32/64bit were, in my opinion, overhyped and overrated. We didnt even get half of what they promised, and there were some major letdowns.

The thing is that back then it was the early days of the net, and we still depended heavily on mags for info. And we all know most mags dont tell you the story behind the fuck'up...

Therefore we only had half the story, and too late to make an impact most of the time. Today we get the news straight out of the conference room, and we can go and talk about it with friends all over the world, unlike in the old days when the most people you could find to talk about it were you buddies at the nearest game store.
