everdrive for turbografx express

hi,

I was doing some Google searches, and it seems that some people were facing problems with everdrive on region modded turbografx express (pc engine gt).

i already bought the region free chip with select enable/disable feature.. so is this problem confirmed? is there any work around? as its quite difficult to trade on for another, I mean everdrive against region free..

The Turbo Everdrive has a functional PCE/TG16 switch. Were those people complaining of problems using it?

 

thanks for your reply, not sure , however it was something like the switch doesn't really make a difference, it doesn't boot at all in either selection

 

It's a real problem, but only with some older region mods, typically the ones that used data selectors to switch over the bits on the data bus. This worked with no problems for regular game HuCards, but prevented devices like the Everdrive or the Tennokoe bank from working, since they relied on the ability to write data to the card.

The specific issue I'm talking about isn't a problem with the Everdrive - it's purely down to bad design of the region mod. You are in any case better getting a Turbo EverDrive 2.x model because it has level translators and hence better noise margins.

If you use a 2.x EverDrive in conjunction with one of the region mods that uses a high-performance bus switch chip you should have no problems.

That should be fine - I can't read the numbers on the chip, but it looks like they are using the SN74CBT3383DB bilateral bus switch which has a really low RDSon (about 5R) and won't interfere with the operation at all.
