That's cool, it's a pretty good shooter so guess I'll have to be..in the HUNT for the PAL version (OK, that was terrible, sorry :-(). Edit: The PAL version since, from what I've heard at least, the Japanese version seems to be one of the few games that don't work with an Action Replay on non-JP Saturns.
one buck in the bad pun jar :110: ok, ok, half the content of said jar comes from me anyway :banghead:
Is there any pattern as to which PAL games came in a plastic case as opposed to a cardboard one? I know most newer games (like Winter Heat and MSH) came in plastic cases, and the earliest games were in cardboard ones, but I also have Sega Ages, which is from 1996 and is in a plastic case.
I think there is no special pattern... some games as Sega Rally have the 2 versions (cardboard and plastic) and this game is from 1995, but I suppose that in this case and other similars these games are in plastic case because there are restocks of games who sells a lot in the past years. I have Sega Ages too and is in plastic case, and have Manx TT and Tomb Raider in cardboard and plastic case each one.
Yeah, I had suspected there was no pattern to it, but this pretty much confirms it, thanks for the info.
Games like Sega Rally, Sega Ages, Tomb Raider and Worldwide Soccer '97 also came in plastic cases because they were re-released as pack-ins in 1997. One of the first games to use a plastic case was Megaman X3.
why did they change the cases for the american and european market anyway? standard cd cases for the win! and they did it again with dreamcast games, but this time only for the euopean market... euro saturn and dreamcast cases are a total disaster! /rant
I've said it before, but PAL Saturn cases are terrible, especially the cardboard ones since the cardboard usually gets ripped off the box and the discs don't even stay in the CD holder :-( I don't have a problem with PAL Dreamcast cases though, they look kinda neat and aren't needlessly huge and ugly like the Saturn ones.
¿Who Knows? ¿Maybe... tradition? A disaster and a headache for PAL collectors :banghead: as 7force says they are a nightmare in all steps, Cardboard, CD falls etc, fragile... PAL Dreamcast boxes are awful if you buy them and the seller don't have caution with shipping too.
That's true and pretty annoying - I've had some sealed new DC games where the CD holder pins have already cracked. Still, a huge step up from the Saturn cases.
¿And what about BIG plastic box? In some of them they have a CD holder at both sides of the case (if I remember well Soviet Strike as example), manual can be damaged by this is you don't have caution keeping them inside the box at long time.
The explanation for the American Saturn cases that I've heard is that they had lots of unused Sega CD cases, which were then reused for Saturn games.
Yep it has much sense, if all these cases have to go out better use it for other system and save money and time.
