Extreme G3 Racing ReMaster


The Journey of a kid who's trying to do something he doesn't know how too.

Background:
I've always loved this game as kid. Infact it's what got me into programming.
I've spent about two years getting the source code to this game.
And now that I finally have it. I'm going to try my best to compile this game.
I'll post status updates about the games here.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
However, I cannot release the source code.

How did you end up with the source code? Just curious.

 

Not to bump an older thread, but I hope the OP is still working on this. Last time he was active was the 17th of November. Hopefully he hops back on with an update.

Can you tell us more about the source code, do you have the rights to remake a game or new levels ?
What kind of help would you need ?

 

I need help compiling it. I don't think I need rights? Considering acclaim no longer exists.

 

Even if a company is dead, rights are still existing with developers, artists ...
But if it's for fun, why not.

You can post your errors when compiling and your dev environnement (kit, soft version, ...). Certainly, we should be able to help you with all the skills on the forum.
I see you have a visual studio project.

 

I don't have a PS2 Tool, so I think I can still compile it? Considering it's VS although I'm not sure what version it is. And I think I have to install the PS2 SDK although I'm not sure if that is meant for Linux or Windows. Maybe @ASSEMbler will know.

 

I think you'll need a PS2 SDK. Whitout having some part of the code, it'll be difficult to answer you.

You can open the .dsw file with a Notepad to see the version of VS.
And do the same with Makefile, you will have information on the necessary software/sdk.

 

You'll likely need VS to build "FECK" and the AI editor, and a PS2 SDK for the game itself. Unless there's a Windows version of the game (for debugging purposes) in there (wouldn't that be nice). Hard to guess anything from what's been posted though. Have you done any kind of programming before, i.e. do you have a rough idea on where to start?

 

Yeah I have C#, Lua, Python. I honestly wish I could release the source code. But, I'm not allowed.

 

Excellent, that C# (and related tools) experience should come in handy here since it's at least somewhat similar to a C/C++ VS project.

If you run into any (build system related) problems, remember, make- and project files do not, strictly speaking, count as source code.

Fwiw, the timestamps on the workspace file match up with your system claiming it being VS6. Tried opening it yet, for starters? What projects does it contain? If any sound like they're targeting a PS2, look through their build settings, might contain hints (most likely path names) on what ps2 sdk is expected. To be more specific, they'll likely drive a makefile with paths possibly being in either the project's settings or one of the makefiles (MAKEFILE or one of the .MKs).
