Selling a Megaman X prototype I bought from CoolMod here on the forums from his friend's Capcom proto haul. I have tried to find a way to keep it but unfortunately some bills are pending too much to be able to keep it until I can play it myself.

It was sold to me as working since CoolMod says he tested it. I don't have any means to test it myself, so this is an AS-IS deal. Asking price is $1,200. Might listen to offers. I spent much more and am short changing myself just so I can make a sale, for the record.

    PM me if interested. Thanks.

Is it a Mega Man X prototype, or a Rockman X prototype?

It's a different prototype board, look at the pics. He also sold one on Ebay here:

    http://m.ebay.com/itm/Mega-Man-X-Nintendo-SNES-prototype-Ver-0-2-Sample-/281867554090?nav=SEARCH

Now maybe he bought 2 and this is innocent, but he never mentioned he had purchased more than one and there's also the potential red flag that he doesn't have a system to test them on. Also said he offered way way more than CoolMod was asking (like 2k instead of the $300 CoolMod asked for), which seems a bit strange, though possible I suppose.

It could be innocent, and if that's the case I sincerely apologize. I have just seen enough chicanery on big money items to think it is something worth pointing out, and it's raised the suspicion of a few of us on another site. I hope OP comes in with a perfect reason and I end up looking like an ass and the item is sold and people end up happy. Again, I just think it's worth pointing out.

OP has excellent feedback, so hopefully just a few coincidences. Just a lot that seems off, honestly.

What makes you think he should've mentioned the second one? That doesn't really make any sense. I've got things for sale and things that I'm planning to sell, but haven't put up yet. Would that be considered fishy too?

As I said, a number of red flags have more than a few respected members elsewhere suspicious, not the least of which is that OP apparently forked over about 4k now on 2 MegaMan X protos to CoolMod, who was selling his protos off cheap, without knowing if there were differences and without having a SNES system to test it. Not having a system also means OP cannot provide pics of the proto in action to potential buyers. Did CoolMod even put any MegaManX copies up for sale in his thread? Maybe he did and erased/edited, I can't tell.

Like I said, it's possible all this did happen, but I would feel bad not saying something, given the questions presented, especially since so many are suspicious on another board.

Even if I am 100% wrong, I hope OP could forgive me and understand. It's a strange story, is all.

Maybe I should have just PM'ed the issue to a moderator. Apologies if that's the case.

@Bramsworth certainly has been around here for a while. I'd find it hard to believe there's anything wrong here.

Also let's not ruin this sales thread with conjecture. Just throw him a PM.

Sorry, been occupied the past couple of days.
Concerning people's doubts, as I said I bought this cart from CoolMod from his protos he sold here. You can even see a pic of it on the 2nd page of this thread here:

    http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/bunch-of-protos.58582/page-2

Any further doubt, you can msg CoolMod and confirm if you'd like. But I don't really blame any suspicion since it's always good to be skeptical when dealing with protos and be safe. No harm done. Concerning the pricing, let me clear that up. I contacted CoolMod prior to him making any sales thread and made a high offer specifically just so I would be first priority in obtaining them. I thought people would be hounding him for them and i saw this as a once-in-a-lifetime sale. That other auction is mine, and I lost nearly $100 alone in fees after it ended, which was an end price that was much lower than I expected. I spent money I shouldn't have thinking I'd hold onto them until I visit back home and have an SNES to test them on, but word of my extravagant purchase made its way to family and caused lots of issues, so I'm trying to just pass these on to someone else. Not worth the hassle I caused. CoolMod wouldn't take them back since his friend thought I was pulling a "rip the roms then try to get a refund" scam. So yeah, I'm sowing my oats, so to speak.

It's exciting to think both carts may be early protos, but who knows. i already sold the one that was specifically labeled Ver. 0.2, I have no idea about this current one. Anyway, a little long winded but I hope that clears up any suspicions.

Thank you, Bram, and as I said I really do apologize. I know you've been around and have great feedback, but I've seen it happen like that before, unfortunately. Just a lot of seemingly red flags that pop up sometimes in legitimate sales. I hope you can understand :)

    Good luck with the sale!

    No harm done :)

Interestingly, not a single person has msged with interest. I guess the fact I can't tell anyone if there are differences or not ruins it, but I thought i'd at least get offers. Probably gonna eBay this one as well if I don't get a response within the week.

If the menu and gameplay is not obviously different, buyers should know.

It's hard to get a collector to take a $1000+ chance on something that you can't even confirm as working. I understand personal situations can get in the way, but don't you think you could find someone local with an SNES and at least fire it up to briefly check it out?

It works, CoolMod says he tested it. Didn't bother playing past the titlescreen though according to him.

Honestly I really just need to make back the money and make the situation right again, so I'm not in a position to go out of my way trying to track down anyone local to then go to their house and test it (I have no TV myself). Don't have the time.

But people are saying that if you made the time to get some screenshots you will have a much easier time selling the game.

I understood that, I'm saying I don't have the time to seek out someone with an SNES and go to their house so i can use it with their TV and search for differences. I don't have the funds to purchase an SNES and a TV so I can play it in my home. I just don't have time and it's either you buy it at a gamble or don't buy it at all. This is incredibly common with many auctions and even sales on this very forum (i.e that whole Capcom haul) so I don't see what the problem is.

Understand I am incredibly low on funds and not sure if I can even afford my next month's rent. I'm not in the position to make anymore extra effort to figure this cart out. I just want it out of my hands.

Only just noticing this quote. That's something I never asked CoolMod come to think of it, and something I'm doubting he'd even remember at this point. All I know is the cart works.
