Well, Yakumo did say that Famitsu is the EGM of Japan. Of course FFX would be the BEST GAEM EVAR!!1!

The last EGM list seems a bit more sane; though it feels more like a Most Important Steps in Gaming List rather than a best list.

Amen. Chrono Trigger remains my favorite game of all time, and Chrono Cross was a disappointment. By the time I got to the end, I didn't care what was happening. I just wanted it to end.

now that's what i call a top20 list...although there are some games i wouldn't agree with, but at least it has more than just one genre present

Doesnt surprise me at all, that's Japanese taste for you. Sure each to their own but it's quite obvious going by that list that japanese people don't give anything but japanese games a chance.

I'm going to put this on my "worst top 100 lists" list... there's not a single xbox game on there!

Im the book they actually give you the top 150 and yes, still no XBOX games. It's also a really dumb list since Virtua Fighter on the Saturn is way above Virtua Fighter 2 yet Virtua Fighter 1 was a really shitty conversion while 2 wasn't. Just a load of crap. They also give the % of game types. They have about 5 differen't forms of RPG taking up the list - RPG, Adventure RPG, Simulation RPG, Action RPG and so on.

  7. Yeah, that's always a problem with lists like this. I mean, no one really thinks that the original Street Fighter 2 is actually the best game in the series (Super SF2 Turbo at the very least is considerably better, but actually Street Fighter 3: Third Strike is amazingly better). Same could be said for Space Invaders, Pacman, Pong, etc. Though I must say that in my opinion the original Super Mario Bros is still the best platformer I've ever played and Tetris is the best falling pieces puzzler.

Aside form the difficulty trying to separate actual goodness from influentialness, there's just the fact that trying to compare good games across genres and generations is really pretty stupid when you start to think about it.

That EGM list is pretty good, though, I must say. Especially considering how h@rdc0re gamers like us scoff at EGM these days.

I thought FF-X was one of the best RPGs I played in long time just because of its story (LoZ:OoT was good for that reason too)

Best game of all time? hmm well I dont know about that.. but then I could never think of 1 single game to take that title

Totally agreed. It's like asking "what's the best album ever". There could never be anything approaching an objective answer.
