Please tell me you watch / record the "have i got MORE news for you" which is on Saturday night, is about 10-15 mins longer and even funnier as some stuff they cut out of the Friday show
Captain Slow  We all like Top Gear, because we all wound want to participate on the show. It's our inner kid thinking. I mean, who wouln't like to drive supercars around europe, just to find the perfect road!? Plus they are funny as hell.
I am really surprised they get away with as much as they do. In fact in this latest season they actually get pulled over by the cops three times. I got admit I would love to actually be able to be part of one of the challenges. If anything they are the european version of "Jackass" that happens to also review cars. These guys probably have the most fun out of any journalists out there.
What? You really know how the STIG is? I doubt you'll tell us but how about a hint. Is he a famous driver or somebody we've never heard of? Yakumo
They do actually do get away with a ton of stuff and even though they do get complaints they still keep on going with the same things. Now to be in one of those races across Europe would be great , i especially like the perfect driving road one because they could all pick fast expensive cars and then they got to drive on the best roads in Europe without actually having to go somewhere specific. That whole show is like them being big kids but in the end they still have a sensible side to them when it comes to reviewing and rating cars which shows when they do standard reviews of cars out on the track.
It is a guy called Ben Collins He does most of the driving on the show, but there are a few other contracted guys that do odd stuff. I did a Range Rover course / test a few weeks ago and the guys there did stuff for Top Gear and then all know Ben as well If you ever rememebr when they did the parachute into a moving car, he was driving the Mercerdes
A really cheesy YouTube of 'The Stig' aka Ben Collins (they think) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ULva_21Vfxs
The Ben Collins theory became widespread after Hammond's crash - his name was on the incident report as a technical/safety consultant for the BBC, or some such. However, it has also been denied that Ben is the Stig. Perry McCarthy isn't much help. In one interview, he said he thought it was a girl now but really isn't sure, but in another he said he knows who it is but isn't going to spoil it... and that he believes there's a few of them! Check out the bookie's odds here: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/EDITORIAL/CARS/FEATURES/33573.html And of course, this is a vital clue: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/article831687.ece Ben could well fit the bill!
"The Stig" is just a character. For me, they probably have some drivers that play it. For example, i think that one of the Renault test drivers did the lap on the Renault F1 car. There's no way someone else would do it. Let's not also forget, "Fat Stig", "Communist Stig" "Truck Driver Stig" and so on
I think 'The Stig' is Tiff Needell. The reason he is not revealed is contract issues after the original TopGear crew broke apart for Fifth Gear. It all makes sense if you think about it.
Its not just one Stig, depending on what car/etc he is driving. Black stig was killed of as it was made public who it was.
...African Stig, Down Under Stig, on and on... BTW has anyone seen TopGar Australia? ^ ^ They just wrapped up their 1st season with the next one in the pipe line~
My favourite was finding the Best Driving Road Ever (well, in Europe). Not particularly funny, but for sheer automotive pornography, it's pretty hard to top. I also love the races. Toss up between the Boat/McLaren race and the Plane/Bugatti race for the best one of those.
I thought the Australian Top Gear was piss poor. Sort of like Channel 5's Fith Gear in the UK. There's only one Top Gear and that's the BBC original  Yakumo
Well, technically the ORIGINAL is completely different, being the one originally with Noel Edmonds and I bet you'd think it poor were you to watch an episode now. I have quite a few still. In fact, why don't you? ;-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFzMTSfFPGs&feature=related The relaunched, revamped Top Gear of the 21st century, though, I agree - the best!
I haven't seen Australian Top Gear yet. It's really that bad? For me, Fifth Gear is just ok. Just like the Brazilian "Auto Esporte". If you guys want to see it: http://tvautoesporte.globo.com/ . Direct link to some videos: Gumpert Apollo: http://tvautoesporte.globo.com/carros/0,,MAT0171-10,00.html Subaru Impreza: http://tvautoesporte.globo.com/carros/0,,MAT0167-10,00.html Pagani Zonda: http://video.globo.com/Videos/Player/Esportes/0,,GIM867731-7824-PAGANI+ZONDA,00.html Just forget the portuguese language and "enjoy the ride".
I'll take a look at that when I get home mate. Yeah, I remember them ones. I should have said the "new" Top Gear. By the way, is it true that the "new" Top Gear was all Jeremy Clarkson’s idea? As for Australian Top Gear, yeah, it is that bad. They just talk crap most of the time. Fifth Gear on Channel 5 (UK) is truly a low budget effort compared to Top Gear. That's not the main reason why I don't like it much though. The main reasons are the presenters who try to use all young hip words which just sounds dumb coming from them. Their ideas for why you should pick one car over another are trivial. For example, in 1 show they were reviewing the Evo 10 against some other car (possibly an Audi). The Evo cost more but you did get leather seats and a kick arse navigation system as well as other luxury items. Yet these were the points they were picking out as to why you should not buy the Evo 10. The presenter was saying crap like "Well, I like the Evo 10 but I just don't think it's worth buying. These leather seats don't break the deal for me." WTF! Leather seats??? I think what people really want to know is how it handles at high speed etc. Fifth Gear did the road test on a congested London road. After watching that show I just gave up on it. Yakumo
