Outrun 2 on Xbox made me the fan of Outrun I am today. I liked the series before, especially in the Arcades, but the refined Daytona powerslide mechanic in Outrun 2 just makes the game so much fun to play. It's like After Burner on the ground.
Outrun 2 made me a Xbox recently. I love that game, but I have never played any other in the series. I may get the Saturn's version one day.
I voted for other. You haven't really experienced Outrun until you tried one of the giant sit-in arcade cab.
As you've ignored the original version - the arcade machine - you won't be playing every single version. Or the fact that there were three versions of the cabinet. Oh, and you also missed out PC (DOS), Amiga, Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, MSX, MSX2, Game Gear, PlayStation 2 (Sega Ages Vol. 13), Game Boy Advance (Sega Arcade Gallery) and the J2ME phone version. All in all, this poll was full of fail.
At first glance I thought he meant which version of Outrun in the series sense as in Outrun, Outrun 2, Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast etc. Nope, it seems its a question of which version of the ROM do you like to play, even though each version is probably the same ROM just emulated on a different platform? The question should probably read which controller, peripheral or environment do you prefer to play Outrun on as that is the only thing which really changes... -_- I personally prefer to play Outrun 2 on Xbox / Chihiro... and no not because I won a free copy for posting very fast times in a competition, but I actually enjoyed the game.
The arcade machine. I didn't realise the Saturn had such a good port - when I get my shit together I'll have to give it a spin Thanks for the heads up!
Very. The ONLY thing you said on the topic, in either the thread title, poll title or initial thread, was: EVERY version would include the ORIGINAL arcade machine. It would also include all the other ports that I listed, WHICH ARE HOME PORTS!
I only ever really played the Sega Saturn version. I hardly ever went to the "arcade" in Shenmue 2 because it's so remote from the storyline (you have to take the elevator to a certain floor in some Kowloon building if I remember correctly). I tried Mega Drive and PC-Engine, but I have to say that these are barely substitutes that served its purpose back in the day when there was no alternative. What makes OutRun really fun to me is the super smooth scrolling and scaling and that's what most versions are missing, so I don't even bother trying them.
The Saturn seems to do the scaling the best too. That includes the Dreamcast version. It has the best sense of Depth and speed of any version arcade included.
It's needlessly pedantic to say the arcade version should've been there, it would've made the entire poll pointless. And nobody really cares about those mostly crappy versions you listed, if you really wanna vote for one of them there's the last option.
This thread made me remember the Daytona USA 2 / Scud Race bonus tracks on the XBOX version of OutRun2, now THAT was a nice unlockable bonus
Anything BUT the Sega Master System version. There was something off in most SMS ports. I never really could warm up to any of them (After Burner, Double Dragon, Galaxy Force, etc).
I like the Double Dragon port. But I grew up on Master System Outrun that was the version I knew best, and also suck at most.
