...from time to time I grab me a 6-pack of Danish PowerMalt (or SuperMalt) to boost my resistance.
In the olde days, during winter time, my dad and his brothers got sent to school at young age with a Stout beer + an egg mixed in to endure the cold.
    :) Lovely

I know yeast might be helpful to induce childbirth, so preggy women might drink more Duvel for instance.
It also helps growing back nails & hair IIRC.
Bear yeast pill are available freely here in supermarket, bio stores and pharmacies.

I love vegemite, if it isn't laid on thick, I will put another layer on lol!

I like to add cheese and a dash of pepper and melt it under the grill, gives it a real kick.

    Will have to try Aussiemite..

This reminds me of the "Tour of Australia" Billy Conolly did (back in the '90's) he had this one joke where he mentioned another comedian (American female) had said "Vegemite tastes like licking a cats asshole". Billy said "How does she know?"

Oh man, that reminded me of Shaun Micallef on Full Frontal.
There was one of him just dancing around swearing, just like how I remember Billy Connolly being when I was young! :biggrin-new:
Definitely give the AussieMite a go though!

    Ah, this talk.

I thought it was hilarious when an aussie friend of mine tried peanut butter over skype and nearly vomited. I did the same with marmite and I did as well.

I can't understand the dislike behind peanut butter, and he doesn't understand the dislike behind marmite.

It isn't. I can remember going to school growing up and opening up my lunch box and finding a peanut butter and jelly sandwich which had fused together with the bread, making it soggy and somewhat wet because of the oils from the peanut butter and the moist nature of the jelly. It was disgusting. I would throw it away. I finally got my mother to stop doing this. Peanut butter and grape jelly is the worst. Marmalade and peanut butter, if you use the more expensive organic variety, which isn't very sweet, can work somewhat on a thick slice of bread, but it's still barely acceptable.

Seeing people slaver cheap, corn syrup based grape jelly on thin slices of bleached bread with corn syrup peanut butter, oh I am not well today. Grape jelly is a food item which is vomit inducing.

I have not tried vegemite, but if it's not sweet, then I might enjoy it , perhaps with pepper and cheese melted as the poster below describes.

Edit: On a side note, my mother grew up in France and subsequently would share recipes she enjoyed as a child on my Dad and I. Some were good but one stands out. Jelly omelet. I distinctly remember sitting at the dinner table, eating it , tiny bite after tiny bite, trying to enjoy it while wanting to die. My Dad had the privilege of walking away from it. Finally, I broke down and declared defeat. Thinking about this, what about a vegemite omelet.

My god, how do you live.

I'm all over PB+J, especially when it gets slightly soggy. On white bread. And grape jelly? So good. It's too bad it's hard to get *good* grape jelly in Canada...
My love for peanut butter will never die, I eat it by the spoonful when I'm peckish. It's also the reason why I've got a 2L bucket of it in my fridge.

I've been raised on Marmite so I love the stuff and have it almost every morning on my toast. Naturally, I thought I would love Vegemite but after trying it I found the taste was too strong for my liking.

I hate corn syrup, especially the high fructose kind. It makes soft drink taste awful, compared to what I am used to anyway. Can't imagine it in a food item.

You'd probably like vegemite, it certainly is not sweet. Which is why I find AussieMite interesting as it is slightly sweet, yet still as salty as the beach and err sans sand.

Vegemite omelette? What about Vegemite egg bread! (or more properly French toast). The possibilities are endless now!

I think that I will seek out Vegemite next week when I go shopping again. There are a few specialty shops that I can research first to see if they carry Vegemite. I will also look up some recipes, especially the pepper and melted cheese.

Regarding corn syrup , it's in nearly every food product, whether from the grocery store, fast food or sit down restaurant here in the States. First, because it's made from corn, a cheap abundant crop, it's a cheaper substitute than sugar. Secondly, it's primarily made with GMO, or genetically modified corn, which is bio engineered to produce natural insecticide to kill or be unattractive to insects. The downside of eating a natural insecticide, is that apparently , based on studies, the microbial flora of bacteria that reside in our intestines in which to absorb nutrients and help break down food get wiped out.
When these bacteria get killed, our bodies get less nutrients which leads to low level starvation of certain essential nutrients and vitamins, necessary for healthy cell growth but also tricks the body into eating more, as the nutrients aren't getting processed.
Of course, this leads to people overeating and gaining weight, not just from the loss of bacteria in our intestines, but also from the sugars which mess with our metabolisms. People are so obese in the Western world due to eating loads of processed foods devoid of the integral nutrients that the body needs. Add stress and sedentary lifestyle to this mix and you get premature heart disease and cancers.

So, yeah, I avoid all processed foods and the taste is indeed, tinny and sweet, not pleasant , especially if you aren't used to it.

I highly suggest that everyone stop eating processed foods, especially taking in GMO based corn syrup. Bad stuff.

Also regarding Soft drinks, run away. There was a British medical study which discovered that when citric acid , a key component in soft drinks, combines with sodium benzoate, another key component as a preservative, the two when combined, create a deadly toxin which breaks down the mitochondria which generates a cell's chemical energy and controls the cell's cell cycle and cell growth. This toxin attacks your DNA.

Stay away from soft drinks if you can.

Food must be respected as it's vital fuel for your health and well being. Remember the mind is physical as well.

Anyhow, stepping off the food preacher soap box and going to pick up some vegemite next week. I will post to this thread the results.

Grape jelly here is too sweet and there is a geletin consistancy all over. The best is with strawberry jelly/jam. About the nasty pb&j sandwich, if you put almost anything in a plastic bag for hours getting smooshed without any fridgeration, its going to be nasty. Let us know the results!

Vegemite and cheese just go so well together especially grilled on toast

Oh yea that's right Vegemite chips! lol! I forgot about those!

About the soft drinks, I used to drink quite a bit of soft drink (not as bad as some dude's I know!) but now for some reason that I can't explain I love to drink milk, just plain ordinary nothing added milk.

I don't drink soda with High Fructose Corn syrup. unless it's a limited run soda (Pepsi X Dragon Fruit) mostly I stick to Serra mist Natural, Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback.
All three are sweetened with sugar rather than HFCS

Cheesymite scrolls from Bakers Delight... mmmm... too bad my local Bakers Delight near work tends to either burn them or not put any Vegemite in...
I do not visit that bakery anymore unless absolutely required. Useless bakers. All their bread is dried out too.
Why bother going to all the effort of making the bread if you are just going to do it terribly EVERY DAY.
My local bakery near home does them perfectly though. The bread is soft and fluffy, the Vegemite / cheese balance perfect!
I guess some were just not meant to bake for a living.

It was no accident I forgot about those Smiths Vegemite chips, I wasn't too fond of them. Tasted like a bag of salted, salt!
Not really surprising given the salt content of plain potato chips / crisps combined with a salty spread like Vegemite.

However I'm about to whip up a batch of hot potato chips and somehow combine them and AussieMite / Vegemite to see what happens.

Hahaha, it's probably your bones craving calcium after all the soft drink over the years. Soft drink is bad for calcium right?

Are you in the states? I didn't think there was anything but HFCS in the states? I used to love Dr Pepper. Forgot about it for a few years, found it again... didn't taste right. Sure enough HFCS to the rescue, or rather detest of my face.

The words "yeast extract spread" do not combine into something appealing in my head.

You don't think yeast is sassy? :wink-new:
Had I known what it was years and years ago when I was first put onto the stuff, I would have likely turned it down.
Now it empowers me and makes me a stronger person.
