Hey everyone, I picked up another xbox debug kit a while ago and on the HDD is a build of 'Fear Factor Unleashed'. I have done some research on this and it seems it was due to be released on xbox, ps2 and gba but it only ever made it out on gba. HIP Interactive released the gba version and I presume they were making the xbox version too but what is throwing me is that there is also a build of State of Emergency on here too with is a Rockstar/ VIS game. I have played it a little bit but it is very buggy and if you fall off the designated path you basically have to restart the whole game. I will try get some screen shots and maybe a video. Does anyone know of this being released anywhere? Anyone have anymore information on it?
Any details on where the kit came from? I know State of Emergency was QA'd by an outside firm called Absolute Quality UK - it's possible this kit came from them and they were also testing Fear Factor before it got scrapped?
I am not 100% sure myself. All indications point to VIS Entertainment as other things I got at the same time were quite clearly from them. I have some spare time tonight though so I will get some pictures taken and get some screens up. I will give it a decent play test too. Keep checking back
I'll take an educated guess that it's a Globalstar developed game. Globalstar part of Take 2 that release licenced games. Covers both Take 2 (SOE) and (FF) being on the same Xbox. Check the port of SOE on Xbox and see if it's credited to Globalstar.
To be honest I have never played the original SOE so I have no idea how close to final it is or if there are difference it is at all. I am struggling to get it to play in colour. I bought myself an RGB cable thinking that would solve my problem but it didn't. Any thoughts? I have been slack lately but I am going to get some screens of this debug kit up and running so people can have a look. I am fairly sure I have sorted out a trade for the system itself so I can't go releasing the stuff on the hdd but some screens for everyone would be nice.
Unfortunately not. Infact when I got everything out last night I remembered that I had ordered the RGB cable from ebay and it never showed up. So I haven't actually tried that method yet (I will get on that now). For the time being I took some B&W pictures and I will get them up later on today once work has died down a bit.
Took some pictures of the unit up and running last night. This is the XDK Launcher with the programs saved on the HDD. On selection of the Fear Factor app it fires you straight into gameplay (first picture). There are no intro screens or even a title screen. Pressing the start button brings up the menu which allows you to exit the level back to the main menu (second picture) The main menu is a basic scroll selection (see pic) and has the following - Fear Factor (Takes you to the character selection list, see pics below) Xbox Live (Requires you to sign in) Custom (Brings up a menu of - Number of players, Game type and AI Skill) Practise (Brings up the level menu) Multiplayer (Brings up a menu of - Number of players, Game type, AI Skill, Order of Play, Handicaps and Taunts) Video Gallery (Not selectable) Options (Brings up a menu of - Profiles, Audio and Video & Camera) Records (Not Selectable) Help (Not selectable) There are also 4 characters which are shaded out and say 'Character Locked' above them. Not sure if they will be unlockable or not. Once you have selected your character it takes you to a level menu (much like the main menu list, I forgot to take a pic) and the following levels are listed - (any with a * are not selectable) Madness Mountain * Red Hot River Barrel Blast The Mouth of Hell Skyreach * Suicidal Slide Rooftop Rock n Retch Sky High Scramble Gator Glade * Swamp Swerve n Spew Moonshine Meltdown Gator Bait Gauntlet Apocalypse City * Detonation Derby Wrecking Run Armageddon Alley Frozen by Fear * Cable Carnage Brake Bounce n Barf Alpine Assault Once you have selected the level you wish to play it gives you basic instructions of what you have to do (collect flags, finish in a certain time etc...) It looks as though non of the levels are finished. If you fall from a platform it is impossible to get back to where you need to be, you basically have to restart the whole game. There is no music and no sound effects on any of the levels. If you leave the main menu screen to itself for maybe 15 seconds it loads a small demo which looks like - Whilst I was searching on the dash I found saves for Corvette which had a US only release by TDK Mediactive and also Evil Dead: Fist Full of Broomstick which was a THQ title. This really doesn't make any sense to me at all?! Sorry for the large pictures, just wanted to make everything clearly readable. I can resize them if its a problem.
Might aswell share some more images whilst I have the spare time. These are pictures of the other apps on the HDD (I know the Dolphin is a standard app but wasn't sure on the others) Xbox Controller Test: Audio Console Application: Doesn't actually allow you to do anything but reading the text indicates it needs to be connected to the PC with the relevant software Playfield:
And what about the "Friends" app in the first picture? I hear everyone talking about these so called 'friends' yet I don't know what they are. Thanks for sharing.
Totally agree. I will order an RGB cable from ebay at some point this week and get some new screens up. Still can't work out why it has SOE on the hdd and then this. Also the save data is throwing me. The SOE file looks very small so that could be an early build too. I have never played the retail version to compare but I took some screens of that too. Title Screens - Main Menu - Characters -
Have you set the output to PAL in the settings? The XDK will autoconvert the output. Then you'll get color. Or, you could just use XN to capture screens as well. -hl718
