Do we have clear confirmation they're still releasing? Not that I'd buy them, just I've seen the steep prices for other rare American soccer games. Makes this an interesting tale to follow. From what I gather... FIFA 13: ESRB rated. No apparent preorders open. PES 13: Not ESRB rated. A few online stores are taking preorders.
Both are coming out in PAL territories along with NBA 2K13 so I'd assume they'd release in America too.
Deadly. I sold these up to 2007 when Sony took them off the shelves, yet there was still demand for these consoles but we didn't have the stock for the demand. If Sony had kept making producing them in the UK for £49.99-79.99 they would still sell to this day. Promise.
But why would Sony produce the hardware when nobody is developing games for the console? And not to sell 1/2 consoles a month at £49.99! I know alot of people think that companies should do things to please the fans but at the end of the day they are running a business and without making money there would be no company at all! Realistically, the PS2 was dead 12 months after the release of PS3. It's just how it works.
I'm no fan of the PS2, personally I thought Sega should still produce Dreamcast now THAT is fan service, the PS2 gaming market only died out because Sony strangled the console supply, I saw it first hand... The UK didn't get the 9000 series machine and the console sells 1,500 a week in Japan - don't forget the PlayStation 2 became profitable for Sony in probably 2003 so they didn't lose any money after this fact and PS-One consoles were sold in the UK until 2004. Software only really dries out when hardware isn't produced alongside it.
@Dreamcastnews: I had no idea the UK didn't receive the PS2 slim 9000x models! I feel so lucky (IMO they its the best iteration of the PS2). In the US, we got 2 color variations of it (Sliver, Black) and the final Retail PS2 SKU that officially packed this latest model with a Copy of Toy Story 3. A few months after that retail bundle was released by Sony, about 2 years ago, Some major dept. stores started putting their PS2 hardware on clearance shelves for a measly $50!!! I took 2 of them as they still retail for $99 even today (Sony Store retail still carry them and indie gamestores as well around my area for $99). I agree with you completely! If the console was still in circulation among retailers, it would still sell modestly well especially if given a price drop. True! But games within the PS2 library are STILL being produced and RE-issued all the time. As such there is plenty of brand new software reissues for major titles like Fatal Frame, Street Fighter Series, GTA and so on. While on subject of its respective library, The PS2's back catalog is massive; abundant and quite relevant in the used game market. Coupled with backwards compatibility with PS1 software and DVD playback, there is still plenty a reason why casual and hardcore gamer alike may find worthwhile to purchase a PS2 with an attractive pricetag today.
Yeah Europe got it as did Australia, I think they got it in Ceramic White too! I managed to snag a straggler in CEX that managed to make it into the country, in my eyes there was a MASSIVE market in porting PSP games to the PS2 that Sony only tested the waters with LBP and Resistance should have been ported in say 2009-2010. I'm not sure why the UK was left in the dark later in the PS2's lifecycle the last Sony published game we got was Toy Story 3 but it came out maybe 12 months after the nearest release (Motorstorm) Can you still get a PS2 new where you are, CD ageS?! Last place in the UK was Toys'R'Us and even then they were the ultra light 7000 series machines with Simpsons and they were still £120 I think! What should have happened here was a specialist like GAME should have struck a deal with Sony to sell the machine for £49.99 with a full Platinum range aimed at 'kids first console' and it would still be going today.
Hmm yes the UK did get the 90000 series, or how else do you explain people in the UK coming home with an SCPH-90003, when the 3 denotes it is a UK model? It isn't some dodgy import sold in UK market as those are normnally using the 4 suffix. If your experiences only go up to 2007 then your experiences are long out of date. Also, if they bwere taken from your shelves, it doesn't mean they were taken form others, or even taken by Sony.
My experience goes up to this year when I stopped working for Gamestation, actually. I've NEVER seen a store in my region sell a 9000 PS2 be it, GAME, GS, Toys'R'Us, Argos or the usual suspects, if you know more on where you could get them then by all means; do tell.
Toys R Us have stopped selling games in Australia, and consoles don't happen there either. It's just old stock at launch prices...
I found a lead about PES, very convincing pics. Nothing new on FIFA yet. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-PES-201...9592?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item20cd4d2948
I just got PES 13 for my PS2, but from what I've been able to find, the US version of FIFA was canceled for the system. It's too bad really, I think Sony could have gotten themselves a niche for a super-cheap system to compete with the Wii this console generation.
While googling for FIFA 13 info... Turns out an apparent NTSC version of unknown origin was scene released. Look up "SLUS-21954". I'd guess South America only if legit.
