The world is running out of places where I can steal things semi-legally.

It's worse than that, if they think a site might allow filesharing. So for example if the URL sounded a bit suspicious but there was nothing untoward on there, they could block it.

Who cares? In Spain, robbing a car or beating up someone is, legally, a smaller crime than downloading a song, but it's still bullshit, there's no way for stoping piracying, it's always been done, way long before the internet did even exist. xD

If it wasn't for piracy we would still be in the stone age!

Piracy is one of the main draws of the internet. That and porn. Don't they pretend even for a second that we signed up for high-speed connections for anything other than those two:p

Now that everyone is adopting a fast connection however they re trying to feed us content for a fee. So we have a situation here where the mass population must trade in its "illegal" (read unprofitable) activities for "legal" (read profitable) ones. From where I m standing this doesn't sound very attractive since I m not at the receiving end. No deal.

PS: Films, music, media in general, are not only entertainment. They have also (for me at least) been the seed of either inspiration or knowledge and if it wasn't for the internet and "piracy" I woudlnt have that sort of "DIY education". The public domain stuff isn't really up to date either so in the end only those who can afford to pay can benefit from the knowledge and the content of others. In combination with things like the discouragement of reverse engineering and "hacking" I think they just want to breed a new type of money-making cow - one without the physical medium involved but with all its limitations and then some.

The basic ideas surrounding a liberal and neutral internet are slowly collapsing under the pressure of the corporations. To see a government regulate what should be free (in the liberal sense) as air - the internet - is tantamount to censorship in my view - too bad LSD won't save us this time, since they made that illegal too :( People seriously need to wake up.

Should one have to pay for such inspiration and knowledge?

It's the amount of information that we as humans can digest thanks to the internet that has risen to levels never before seen in our race's existence.

The fact that information of any kind, be it text, music, pictures or movies, can be experienced in volume and for a reasonably set fee (The connection you pay for) makes the internet a fast-track of learning for more and more people every day.

To introduce physical-styled barriers and inflated costs in its already free and established form is an artificial limitation that doesn't promote human culture but personal gain. It's people's interest versus personal gain and as much as I love money as a lawyer, I love humanity more =)

And to make things clear.. we already pay top dollar for the equipment and the connections, why the censorship? It isn't protecting our interests anyway, it just provides an arbitrary method of controlling what people can view/know/experience and its obvious end-goal is to produce revenue.

We aren't spoiled. We made the internet what it is today, as we have all been pirates and you know it be true:p We didn't make it this big so some asshole in a suit can make extra money with less publishing costs.

I think hacking and similar are more serious than file sharing... I mean, what the fuck, they don't really care when someone hacks YOUR computer, but they care when YOU download ILLEGAL(cough cough) music or movies. Seriously, wtf?

The day filesharing becomes illegal worldwide harddisk companies will go bankrupt...

But honestly, as long as getting an internet conection on a neutral country (ie: holland or whatever) and VPN to it from where you are is cheaper than buying all the crap you can get for free, filesharing will continue to be there.
