I have donated 24 TB of space to archive the original, user provided content. I got a long list of specific URLs this morning and started all the (long) downloads. Looks like we (there's a concerted effort from a group of folks) will get most of the irreplaceable content. In fact, it looks like I'll only need to actually download 2-4TB. We'll see. My inbound bandwidth into this particular server has been pegged at 80 megabits/s all day
Well, they (the community that is trying to save the data) can't have that space forever, but it will give them time to distribute it or find a permanent home for it. Honestly I had never even heard of the site until a few days ago, but my friend Jason Scott who runs textfiles.com and "archive team" (see ascii.textfiles.com blog) thought it was all worth saving...
Damnit! Filefront kicked ass for grabbing...well, files, without needing some damn logon. I know when EGM or whoever died, the subscribers were given free premium Filefront accounts. Damn!
Yes, I am actually really sad to see it go. Would always download Half-life Mods from here as it was the most reliable and fastest without need for Registering/Signing in... Definitely a great site.:crying:

You will be glad to know that all of the DoW files are safely saved: http://arloria.net/ircrts/wiki/Main_Page That page details the group efforts to back up all of the community sites, etc. As you can see, DoW is on that list as "complete". The site goes down in roughly three hours. I still have two more sites (battlefield2 and halflife2) in progress ... hopefully they finish soon ...
I didnt think it would go down that fast...dang. Im glad those DoW files are still up. I haven't played that game in a while, but its nice that the files are still up.
Its been bought by the original founders from ziff davis meda as seen here - http://welcome.filefront.com/ Everything from it should be back to normal although i don't use it that much so i can't say if everythings back or not.
