Hi all, I have Final Fantasy IX Preview Discs SPA(Spain) version 0.8 and I like to know from someone who has more experience why the 4th disc is black. I saw another copy of it(the ITALIAN version) always version 0.8 and the discs are all white
PSone had both black and white label promos. When they were making those it is unlikely they would have made all four discs at the same time. They would have done a batch of disc one's, twos and so on. Depending on the date and tie, when and where by the time they got to the fourth disc they could have had a change of plan. Either that, or your set was originally all white, or the white ws a mistake and someone completed it with a black, or there never was a white disc 4. Who knows, but those are the only possibilities I can think of at present.
Doubtful, its a translation prototype. If the game was going to be truly incomplete, it would have to be prior to the Japanese release most likely, or very, very early. Not to say there can't be differences, but I would start by dumping the disks and comparing the data to retail. Most differences Id wager would be translation
Almost every PSone promo I've ever seen are black though. I have of course seen whites too but they are in the minority. If it is a mistake I'd wager the mistake was the whites, not the black.
The white labels are not "regular promos", they seem to be factory pressed prototypes (near final code). The layout of the discs shown here follows the white label layout, even the one which is printed in black. The proper black label promo layout is slightly different => the black is the mistake in this lot.
