just got it recently and though it looks kind of outdated, it still plays great. 1342mb of goodness, for mere $9.99. ability to play it without inserting discs and being able to transfer it legally to my PSP and have it on the go is a plus too. with game fetching $50-$100+ for physical copies, that's a great alternative to get beloved classic at a great price.
I ripped my psx version years ago to my psp....files a little larger than yours though (slightly over 1.4 gig i think) but i only have one disc on my memory stick at a time (450 mb) but for just under ten bucks you cant complain, but its still 10 bucks too much if you already have a copy.
sorry to be a party pooper but games of that era weren't meant to be played on anything but interlaced scanline-based displays. Your LCDs, higher resolutions and HDMI will not be the optimal visual quality intended by the game's developers, as well as the differences in luminance/brightness and subsequent colour-perception. That said, I guess it's worth it for all those kids who hear so much about FF7 but have never played it. I know most will be dissappointed, be it the aged gameplay or the aged graphics, even the new FF fans but at least they can claim they had a stab at the beast. Me..well let's just say I dislike Final Fantasy with a passion =)
My LCD is all I have, and all I'm going to have for a very long time. =) Better then plugging a PS1 into Svideo/composite.
not true. I've played it on 50' Panasonic Plasma and it looks better than ever. (if you won't go widescreen, just play in native 4:3 mode). PS3 scaler handles things nicely. tough luck Jimmy :110: it's a shame you have never quite got it, you're missing out. I can understand your point of view though as I remember quite a few of my friends laughing at it back in 1997.
I want FF8 and Xenogears! So, I actually was wondering, if I got a 1080p TV, does that mean non HD (Wii, Saturn, Xbox, DC) things are going to be even uglier?
depends on what kind of connection you'll use. for DC, Xbox, Wii you can use VGA and Component, that will look good. saturn and older systems running through composite/s-video won't look very good. upscalers aka xrgb will help though.
Laughing at a game that has won such critical and commercial acclaim would be just laughing at myself. It just happens to be a difference in taste. That said, if you gift me a voucher to download it I ll certainly go through it to make a more informed decision :110: What worries me though is the lack of a "sync" option between PSP and PS3 PS1 save files. I know that you can "transfer and convert" the save file from PS3 to PSP for PS1 games but the opposite isn't possible - and with such a huge game, and all the chocobo raising going on, you wouldn't want to be playing the same game in parallel at home and on the road.
I saw this on the PSN and thought about picking it up. I got a real copy of FF VII before realizing my japanese PS3 wouldn't play it. Maybe I'll pick this up. Oh btw, does the game have the stupid boarder on either side like the demo/movie thing had? That really bothered me and was the only reason why i didnt pick it up.. in fear that it would be displayed like that instead of forced widescreen.
Currently I have a 27" 720p (well 768p) and was going to get a 40" 1080p, maybe. I just figured 1080p from 720p would make stuff suck worse. To be honest, the Saturn/DC don't look that bad really. I know they technically are but they honestly don't look unplayable or anything. DC looks awesome through VGA. The wii, on wii games is really really washed out and sucky. I think my component inputs might just suck as everything through them is just crappy looking. It'd be 360/ possible PS3 through HDMI, Xbox/Wii through component, DC VGA, Saturn S video. I just figured 1080p from 720p would = worse for older stuff.
Well that's answered the question I came here to ask. I have to say it's a bit of a shame really considering how they were going on about the interconnectivity at E3. Maybe they'll do a firmware update around the launch of the PSPgo to allow syncing.
FF7 is probably the most overrated game in history, but it was impressive back in 1998 or whatever. Now not so much, since there have been tons of better JRPGs, and the Final Fantasy series is not even close to being the best JRPG series.
What do you think the best JRPG series is? I've never really gotten into FF. I've just dabbled here and there.
I'm not really a big JRPG (or RPG in general) guy anyway, but I guess the MegaTen series is my favorite, even if the difficulty is through the roof in some of them. Still haven't bought Persona 4..
