I consider myself an idiot, so forgive me ahead of time if I'm wrong, but would a generic drive chip mod (WiiKey clone? I doubt it's more than a D2B inside) work in this case? Of course, it could be totally different also?

On another note, would one be able to, with the proper firmware, use a mod chip to play the RVT-R discs?

I m under the impression that RVT-R readers are able to read unsigned code, hence aren't able to read signed code, so even if you do chip it it won't operate the way you expect it.

a RVT (the green one) also plays NR discs, and since you can change the region of the RVT I guess you can play all region NR discs :)

If you had a mod chip that allowed you to run homebrew then it's possibly feasible that you could write software that allowed you to load rvt-r's on a retail.

However it's probably cheaper ( in terms of time/effort ) to buy an official one from a brankrupt games company. This type of question falls under the heading of "if you have to ask then you don't have the required skills to do it" category.

expect crappy companies to bankrupt by making those cheap crappy games, most of the wii games are these kind...

Anyway that RVT looks great, Hmm i saw some pic around thw WWW which seemed a wii dev kit with a HDD in it, could anyone explain me what is that?

it's the equivelant of the NPDP Console.

Essentially, it's an HDD-based solution that can hold multiple images (i think four just like the predecessor). Unlike the NPDP Console, the HDD is not removable to my knowledge.

It also doesnt need a Gang-writer (with those rare WIF cards) to write the Disk, as it should be handled over a network, judging from some manuals and buttons on the kit.

Just to make things clear, the only true Development Kit for the Wii is the NDEV, the rest are debug/test solutions. The NDEV has exactly double the amount of RAM compared to the retail offering, for obvioud reasons.

the NDEV is the green one?
Hmmm interesting, the HDD one seems sexy :love2:

    a little offtopic:

Since the zelda exploit has been released and so will the elf loader ( thanks twiizers team )
Apart from the old wii sdk 2.1, has any other sdk got leaked?
I might like to start experimenting on it ( specially the SD CARD reading part ) before the unnofficial SDK is created and maybe I could help them in a few things

isnt the black one one of those early dev kit and wii prototypes ( withthe revolution name on it ) same as the first revolution shown on E3?

    No, don't be confused.

The prototype devkit was a modified GDEV with retrofitted memory and some extra bells and whistles.

The NDEV was ready pretty quickly and can be spotted in some pictures around the web. It actually looks nothing like a Wii.

Here's a nice little photo I took last summer. It's a lot clearer than the pics of the red Wii earlier in this thread.

Great photo graciano1337! Thanks for sharing :) So harddisk based debug/test units are still red, and the disc based debug/test units are still green...
