its not looking that bad actually.
i put my very first jamma2scart adapter inside an old cd rom drive to hide the messy wiring, fits the jamma connector nicely.

how about adding the audio output and a slow and fast blanking signal to the scart connector aswell? (i assume you havent, cant say for sure)

Hehe, thanks. Well it's a fair cry from SIGMA, innit ;-)

And I havent added the audio input yet, I'm not going to try feeding amplified audio into the SCART, but I'll probably make an adapter for boards with line-level audio, such as my ST-V.

And what's this thing with fast and slow blanking?

Dammit, Tiscali nazis are at it again. Sometimes my webspace just goes down. I'll be up again in a few hours I'm sure.

I want to laugh, becuase well, it's about the sparsest Supergun I've ever seen...

Still, I'm jealous. Lucky Europeans with your RGB TVs. Still, I think I have most of what I need around my house...Old PC power supply, Neo Geo Joysticks...I'd just need a harness...and a cheapo RGB encoder...

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but got the bits to start making mine now.

I noticed the CD-ROM/HDD molex on the power leads, will just that one connection provide enough to power it all? I thought you needed +,- and 0V? I have a few external CD/HDD housings (spoiling my surprise, but figuring it better to see if I am wasting my time) and was wondering of they will have enough juice to power it.

This time tomorrow I may have a cocktail cabinet, so this might be a pointless question, but I still have those Mortal Kombat boards kicking around.

the right voltage on the fast blanking scart pin will switch your tv into rgb mode automatically.
slow blanking switches into av mode.

that means you just plug your supergun into your tv and it will switch into the right video mode automatically.
eliminates the need for a remote and is also very handy if you want to substitute a broken arcade cabs monitor for a tv.

most boards just need the gnd, +12v and +5v lines, so a molex connector should be fine.
cant say for sure which ones need the -12v line, too, but i havent come across any so far.

A wire of that thickness can safely supply around 15A, definately enough for a Supergun.

I'm pretty sure you need -5V for Mortal Kombat, -5V is generally used in sound circuits, I'm pretty sure 1A will get by. You can buy voltage inverter ICs but it may be hard to get one capable of 1A, cheaply, also they are noisy devices and may need support parts.

They will be able to power SOME games, most enclosures supply from 1 to 2A on each rail, to be safe I wouldn't design a Supergun capable of supplying any less than 5A on +5V.

You'll have trouble if you try and fritz with the PSU too much. My NeoGeo64 requires around 15A on the 5V rail, for example ;)

You need -5V for sound to work on the majority of games, in my experience.

I'm planning to use an old PC case when I build my SG... if I can find one big enough to put the arcade PCBs inside.
Is there a 'standard' size for JAMMA boards? What's the largest?
(I only have a MK1 at the moment, so that's my size guide) ;-)

There's no standard size for arcade PCBs. I've seen them as small as the width of the JAMMA connector (it literally took up one whole side) by half its length, and as big as 2-3 A3 sheets, stacked together (Primal Rage etc). Also some (like CPS1 QSound boards, The Punisher being one example) come in big plastic cases, so you might not have a huge amount of room. It's a good idea though :)
