I have just come home with a new air purifier for my room. No longer will dust and sugar glider smell be a problem. Well, I'm sure some will be left, but I hope this thing works. Lifetime warranty and no need to replace a filter. Anyone else have any good experiences with these things?

    Is it an "Ionizer"?

I had one of those when I was younger, a Vicks humidifier brand. It worked well!

    Yeah, it's an Ionizer. It's a Honeywell HHT-100.

I use the air-conditioner for making the air clean. Has some sort of positive and negative Ion thing on it that cleans the air.

Do these help the problem with Dust particles collecting? I have to dust a lot and with a black entertainment center, dust shows up even worse.

Yeah, they sure do. This one says it collects 99% dust, mold, smoke, pet hair, and pollens.

Definitely let us know how well this unit works. I'm in serious need of an air filter, both for dust and to breath easier. The air in NJ is not known for it's 'healthy' qualities.

Will do. I can cofirm that the strong glider smell in my room has already gone away due to leaving it on high with the ionizer feature and its oscillating feature.

That's news to me. What was the one shown on television all the time called?

Ionic Breeze Air Cleaner from Sharper Image

    "See: http://www.azcentral.com/12news/consumer/articles/Call12AirCleaners10012003-CR.html
    Excerpts:
"Consumer Reports just evaluated Sharper Image's Ionic Breeze
Quadra along with 17 other portable cleaners. The tests were
    performed in a sealed chamber.
    ...................
According to Pittle, "In the same test, the Ionic Breeze Quadra had a very slow rate of cleaning. And when we tested it over a longer period of time, its cleaning performance did not improve."

And tests show two other room cleaners that work like the Ionic Breeze, the Honeywell Environizer and the Hoover SilentAir 4000, also rated poor in cleaning performance.

Our tests show, and independent experts confirm, that these air cleaners don’t work fast enough to be effective."
    ------------------------------------------

So CR tests show its not very effective. Another downside is the ozone released may irritate the lungs, especially for a patient with twitchy lungs."
the thing releases ozone muahahaha :\

I'vre had a few of these, as I have asthma. The ionic breeze works the best, and it now has an anti-ozone module on the back of the new models. However, they don't do much better than animal and mild air issues. A large hepa based model is needed for serious scrubbing.

It is also bad to breathe in ozone, it is a byproduct of the ionization process.

If you leave the unit on in a closed room and come back, you will smell the ozone.
It's a light tin like smell.

Heh. My room has two windows that face directly to the street - two blocks away from one of the busiest avenues, near the exit to the second largest city in Mexico.

So yeah, I blow my nose and find dust. There's dust on everything I own if it's not moved in a 12 hour interval. And smog everywhere, as my room is directly atop the garage.

Even if I did have an air purifier, it'd be full of dust by the second day. Oh, and I have the flu right now. Oh, and I have three cats.

Is anything like an "industrial" air purifier accessible?

Ionized air makes the dust heavy and it settles out of the air. I would suggest you get one.

Yeah, I have one of these. They work pretty well. It can be kind of nasty to open it up and see all the dirt you would be otherwise breathing.
