Just wanting to share my view on this. It is always great to find change on the floor. Pennies, Nickles, Dimes, Quarters, etc. Even if I find a nickle, it just makes me feel so appreciative and lights me up inside. I know that I can start collecting and putting change together to either get a coffee or use it towards a pack of Maverick Red 100s if the change grows big enough.
Doubt you'll find sympathizers. The average person thinks nothing of coins... or blowing $20 on lunch.
People drop them and throw them because they just weigh down your pants. I hate getting 50c, 20c, 10c and 5c change, I usually just give them to friends standing next to me. "can't carry coins".
Unless you wait a year later, then it's worth 3% less. I could do without change. Infact I think we could get away with abolishing all but the quarters now. I hate going to europe and having a euro be a coin. Death to coins!
Canada was smart and completely got rid of pennies. America should follow suit. Also despite the fact I'm not a big coffee drinker, spend it on that over cigarettes. Just my two cents... forget I said that.
Right on man. Finding vintage change (especially silver) is even more exciting. When I used to work around cash registers, I'd see old money pop up all the time. Silver Dollars, Silver Certificates, unusual fed notes (1963 B), Mercury Dimes/Quarters, Franklin Half Dollars, WWII-era pennies made out of zinc (1943) or gun metal scrap (1944-45). Most of it was usually brought at once in bulk by kids stealing it from their parents to buy candy. Eventually a kid stole my collection to buy stupid crap when I was away from home, so I guess it came full circle. The bills were hidden well enough that he didnt find them. My favorite incident involved a guy almost paying for coffee with an 1870s Imperial Russian Ruble that looked like it was made out of solid gold.
