The real question is why the hell didn't the sixaxis include this in the first place? It's not as if the technology didn't exist, since the 360 and Wii already had it.

Because rumble was so last gen & not needed for such an advanced futuristic console.

    LOL oh wait.......

Yay, I'm one of the few who feels the PS3 needs its damn rumble back. I miss it. :(

Now for sony to get off it's ass and make a usb rumble add on for psp (I like the bit of rumble found in wario ware twisted for gba).

Why? Devs have had the SDK and prototype controllers for a while now.

All retail games out now can have a dl patch to add rumble support in.

Only people screwed are ps3 owners who now have to buy another controller.

Licensing issues were not sorted out till sometime after the ps3 launch. Ms & Nintendo bit the bullet early and just sold out (ms went further and bought shares in inmersion).

In what sense? The games will still work on the system with the new pad, they just won't have rumble included. Those in production currently will be able to add the rumble feature if they so desire. It's just an updated API to them.

Also the PS3 can be updated thanks to the forced HDD included in every system, so older games can be retro-fitted with rumble.

I recall Nintendo avoiding the Immersion lawsuit because the type of rumble it had in the GCN controller was a singular type as opposed to the dual type used in the Xbox and PS2 controllers.

.. oh, and rumble isn't necessary. It IS last gen.

I wouldn't call it last generation. I think it has a place and a value to gamers, but the lack of it has been blown out of all proportion.

Right, all they need now is games, I mean real ones nothing like Lair, Warhawk or any games released so far on PS3 so far...

    I know...I'm hard on them...but that's so true...

It was sony themselves who went on record to say they didn't put rumble in as it was last gen & not the way forward.

If only sony knew when to keep those silly PR guys quiet they wouldnt be struggling half as bad as they are now. Makes you wonder if some of them are secretly employed by microsoft & nintendo to try & bring the company down from the inside LOL

Rumble is so unrealistic its not even funny.
"Wow! I'm summoning Bahamut, now my controller is jacking me off"

Just add some lead in the controllers so they weigh a bit more.

A company can be wrong and public opinion can change their minds. As long as they are honest I can accept that. It's when Sony start BSing me with things like "ha yeah, well we were just testing you! Of course we knew the moon wasn't made out of cheese" that I start to get mad like bull

More like the one before the last one-gen, since rumble is from the days of the N64 and PSX:lol:

No. I've NEVER liked the PSX controller, EVER ! And before anyone starts with Sega fanboy bullshit I tell you it has nothing to do with the maker of the controller. I think it's D-Pad uncomfortable full stop and those two L & R triggers are not needed.

I agree D-pad has always been a pain, if it was less deeper in the contoller it would have been great. 2nd gen Saturn controller is a good example of a good D-pad controller.

Yakumo we all know you are a SEGA fanboy don't hide :110:

i also consider the Dual Shock and any PSX controller to be shit. They hurt my fingers.

This generation's winner is the 360's controller, although not suited for retro gaming.

The Classic Pad of the wii is also utter crap - I d prefer the GC controller any day over it. It also lacks rumble , which is stupid.

Be nice if Sony will say "We fucked up, we admit we should have had rumble support from day one. We will make sure every game released to date will have rumble support forthwith.". Although the bastards are likely to charge more for the Dualshock 3, so I'll be getting my gf to write a letter of complaint to Sony Computer Entertainment Inc and see if I can get one free.

As for the pad, I quite like the Playstation pads, they were comfortable to hold but will all pads they have something which borders on the stupid.

N64 pad was good, but I disliked the analogue stick as I kept having to move my thumb too far to the left to get it to move left fully. The D pad was okay but not too responsive.

Dreamcast pad was too large and bulky and the analogue stick was too far out of the way to be comfortable to use for long periods of time. The D pad was a joke and far too small.

PS2 Dualshock 2 was good but the D pad was done in suck a way that diagonals are too hard to do and the dead zones were pathetic.

Xbox pad, original was tooooo large

Xbox S Pad, good joypad, just let down by the tiny black and white buttons and hard to see start and back buttons.

Gamecube pad, the C analogue stick is too small and has those stupid corners, the D pad is far too microscopic and the analogue digital triggers are just a bad idea.

Xbox 360 pad, apart from the D Pad being the worst D pad ever, just turn the machine on and try to move around using it and see how many times it says "ah you pressed a diagonal" even if you weren't and the back and start buttons being tiny dots that trying to press quickly is more likely going to end up you pressing the Xbox button is a very good pad.

PS3 pad, I quite like, dead zones are improved, the buttons analogue properties are much improved too but the triggers just need to be longer, hopefully the DS3 will make the pad feel heavier and less like a 99p kids toy.
