Two things about this whole mess irritate me: 1) The fact that the PlayStation controller is terrible in comparison to most of the controllers made in the last 10 years. The fact that the analogue sticks were bolted onto the PS1 controller after the original design phase and they are still f'ing there all this time! It's bad enough that they never considered the analogue sticks to be important enough to have as the main control on the pads; and 2) The fact that this is purposefully coming out after this Christmas, so they can pawn everyone off with the non-rumble version before getting you to shell out some more for it. I consistantly feel like Sony is intentionally trying to conduct such dire business practices - talking crap to their consumers, outpricing themselves, failing to help their developers, letting PR make the decisions, etc. - that they intentionally want it to fail. It's so bizarre. (or maybe it's just that the public eye is so fixed on the failures that the competition don't get the negative press).
well they had two options: Keep it shut and go ahead a whole generation without rumble or Take one in the mouth (or ass, depending on your preference) and give people what they wanted, rumble. Their initial estimation that rumble was not "vital" originated from the legal troubles and their refusal to settle with the patent holders. I think they did the right thing , to include rumble. Rumble, even late is better than never. However, I have noticed that although Sony led and innovated with the PS1, as generations come and go they re more and more "traditional". The reason that the PSX controller didn't change, despite the original Butt-plug design intended for the PS3, is because of familiarity. I m sure you have noticed that the PSX controller is the "logo" of sorts when it comes to games. This can be seen on the PSP, Sony Ericsson phones, and game titles. Hence, the dual shock is a marketing statement , not just a controller. It's actually primarily a marketing statement and then a controller - which obviously makes it lack the innovation and comfort provided by other modern pads. I think Sony should have been more aggressive with their controller design, just as much as they are with their technologies.
What sort of idiot plays 2D games with a PS pad? Every fule knows that you should have a decent joystick to play those games.
I prefer joypads to sticks. It might not be the same attitude some fat geek with a girly anime avatar might have when clicky-sticking his way through the latest mahjong title perhaps, but it suits this idiot just fine.
