Well i got the softmod done. Just gotta set up ftp and get the backup off then work out how to make a new drive because i'm still getting 07 occasionally and im nervous the hdd is gonna fail.I got a question about emulators. whats the best thing to do? I like the look of coinops but i could only have coinops 2 to start with due to hdd space but its a bit hard to find a good download for it.

If using the stock 8Gb drive then you can get Coinops Lite, which is made for stock drives. Go over to the Coinops Project forum and have a look, there's download links in there.

If you're upgrading, chuck a decent size in there and get the full version.

Get your EEPROM.bin off the drive ASAP. Then worry about messing around with it...

Can you also use the memory card to backup the eeprom and transfer it to PC? I never tried that.

You can copy anything to a USB or Memory Unit, but you then still need to access the USB or Memory Unit on the PC. It's much more simple to FTP and drag to your desktop.

Well I've got it all sorted now, I've got my eeprom backed up and on my pc then used chimp to clone the drive and put a 40gb in until I buy a bigger one on payday in a few weeks time, probably a 250GB. Got coinops 5 lite installed and running so pretty happy. Does anyone know if you can add packs to coins ops lite versions or just the full or standalone version?

The problem with the 40gb hdd was that it wasn't big enough to install the full version so I had to go for lite but there's a lot of games that are not there that i would love to play so i wanted to try and add some.

Also a big thanks to everyone who has helped me and gave advice so far in this thread :encouragement:

Sorry, I've not tried it. You might want to ask on the xbox-scene.com forums (or http://www.emuxtras.net/forum/ ) about it, to see if it does everything you want of a MAME conversion. There are a few MAMEs for the XBox, I don't know the differences, but I'd imagine the newest is probably the best. Personally, I'm happy with my old favourite arcade games which I grew up playing (Mr Do!, Pacman, Robotron, Defender, etc) so I've not bothered updating MAME.

I'd say UnleashX, though Evo-X is still good, but not up to UnleashX's standards.

Sorry, it's been so long that I must have mis-remembered them.

BTW, Dragon, if you get a hard drive that's larger than 137GB then you need to do a little extra work (but it's well worth it), read these threads

    http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=41&t=149591

    http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=706249

if you have any questions then post on the xbox-scene.com forum as they are very knowledgeable and helpful. The XBox's hard drive is of course E-IDE, though I think you can use some SATA drives with them if you use a converter, but I've not tried it (again, XBox-scene can help you).

Thanks Conker, that's good stuff to know. I went with unleahed in the end and coin ops 5 and just added game packs until I used up the hdd space. Managed to squeeze over 5000 games on there in the end so pretty happy.

Definetly gonna upgrade the hdd. probably a 250g so I can stick a few xbox games on there. Thanks again.

Is there any way I can mod my Xbox and keep the original look of the Dashboard and start up? I mean where I can back up games on the HDD, not just be able to play burnt disk with a mod chip or something.

No soldering needed. Can always just use a conductive pen. Works like a champ.

I've always had a soft spot for XMBC with the Xbox 360 "blades" theme. ;)

Depending on the material used in the pen, you'll probably pay about $15-20 USD for one. That said, if you do any work on electronics they can be a godsend.

Allows you to quickly draw traces (if you've ever lifted a trace you'll realize how useful this can be) or make connections when it would be difficult to solder easily. If you make a mistake, just wipe it off with an alcohol swab.

The only "catch" to the pens is that you need to work on a flat surface (so the "ink" doesn't run while drying) and you have to remember to shake it every few minutes (similar to the silver autograph pens). Most any electronic or hobbyist store should carry them.

    Hi,

I have some questions if anyone can please help.

I have just modded my xbox to evolutionx, now when i go to ftp and move my emulators across, i then go back to the menu and go into emulators, the only problem is that nothing shows up in there even though they have successfully been moved across. Am i doing something wrong?

    Thanks

You putting the .xbe in the proper folder? I had a problem like this and it was because the Xbox couldn't find the proper .xbe to show on the list.

I've tried Snes and Megadrive so far, and the .xbe is in the first folder. When i say that i mean its in the first folder after Snes or Megadrive. I'm still stumped?

Mine is an xbox v1.0, would that have anything to do with it?

I am in the UK and do a modded 80gb drive fully loaded with just over 10 thousand games using vision 3 and coinops lite for £30 all i need is your eeprom sending to me and you will receive a drive that is ready to rock. I have been doing this for about 3 years now using just coinops and this year was getting requests for vision. My price changes a lot depending on how much i pay for the drive. £30 includes second class recorded postage for the drive to you.
