Hi, quick question: does the "Dreamcast Bios chip 3.3v for VA1/2" chip have the original 2D bootup animation or is it the 3D devkit animation? Thanks!

Hi I would like to buy one of these: Dreamcast Battery Holder (Vertical). It's my first buy here at the forum, so I hope it is not a problem. I live in Spain.

    Thanks!

Could you confirm me that you received a PM from me ? I've tried multiple times to send you a PM but I would still have no sent items.

I made a post about this before the site died, but it was long-winded and verbose so I'll try to shorten it down a bit:

    1. Can the Dreamcast region-free BIOS be programmed to allow all six BIOS (PAL, NTSC-U, NTSC-J plus the dev variants of each)? Maybe via a button press or something, similar to holding the Reset button for switchless mods (dammit Dreamcast, why don't you have a reset button?), or perhaps changeable in Dreamshell or similar. Basically, I want the region-free stuff but also want to be able to have all the different colours and types of swirls because... I like 'em. A lot. Maybe detection of the disc's region? Maybe it already does that, and I just didn't realise (I haven't paid much attention to the fine details of the Dreamcast region-free BIOS).

    2. Following that, is it best to piggyback the new chip onto the existing one (I assume if the above can't be done without a switch, the answer is yes, but if the above can be done without a switch, I'm not sure), or just outright replace it?

Final question: after looking at a ton of information, including data sheets, I'm still unsure of exactly which battery I should be replacing my Dreamcast's battery with (I've already put a battery holder in there). Unless it was previously replaced by the previous owner, the original battery was an ML2032, contrary to what I've heard about it being a ML2020 (and I believe there was one report I saw about it being a different size yet again). I heard that the MR2032 wouldn't hold the charge properly/as long, but it's still 3v. The ML2020s (apparently the stock size) are only tabbed, so I assume using them with a battery holder (i.e. removing the tabs) is a bad idea. Basically: do I go for the ML2020 or ML2032, or something completely different?

Sorry for the still-long-winded questions, but I believe I actually managed to shorten that and make it less confusing over last time (although the third question didn't exist last time). I'm just in the market for Dreamcast chips, so I want to make sure I know exactly what I'm getting.

1: The region variations arent stored in the BIOS (I send same bios chip to all regions). Its a flag in the flash chip above the bios that holds this information, you would need to "region change" your console to change swirl. To get different ones with a switch, you would need to replace that TSOP chip with something larger and split it into banks with the extra address lines.

Use a ML2032, once you install a battery holder you dont need tabbed batteries.

So that's using the region change tool that was made, then, correct? Is there any way to do it automatically by detecting the disc's region, though? I don't mind replacing chips to do it, but if it's not possible, I won't even bother. About changing it with a switch, though: how many variations can you get? I'm assuming you'd have to do one switch for the different colours and another for the dev bios, unless you ran both of those through a single switch, but I'm guessing you wouldn't be able to use a standard switch because there are no small six-position sliding/toggle switches (at least as far as I know). Is there any pre-existing guide on replacing the TSOP chip? I don't think I've come across such a thing yet. Granted, this is all because I just want to be able to show off pretty colours, so it sounds like it may not be worth it at all.

Regardless, I'm going to need to piggyback the BIOS chip onto the existing one then add a physical switch to get both the dev and original bios, correct? Unless there's a way to do it without a switch that I'm not aware of.

    Will do, thanks!

Things came today. Wonderful. Now I need pictures of a Saturn Mod. The ones from Seb do not show where to solder the resistors anywhere.

Resistors just go on the legs of the LED - same as when you use a LED for anything else.
