What was the original name of power rangers when it was on in Japan? It wasnt "Super happy ultimate multi colored fighters from outer space" or anything was it?
One of my japanese teachers told me that, when he was a kid, he wanted to be kamen rider as a grown up. The knock off things are even worse, and therefore funnier, than sentai shows. Remember "SuperHuman Samurai Cybersquad"?
The intro song was so absolutely, wretchedly awful! And the fighting on the Internet, with all the cheap "circuit" scenography and weird special effects. Man, I'd LOVE to see one of those episodes again... This was on TV, in, around... when I was in Junior High, probably 1995, like before and around the time the new 32 bit systems were going to come out in the States, so, of course, there were a lot of commercials, but also there still were commercials of Super Nintendo stuff, Sega's Blast Processing, or that Zelda rap. I sort of remember that, anyway.
hell yeah.. I got that thing for my birthday once and I thought it was the best thing ever...ahh the memories.
"Go go Power Rangers!" Yeah!!! I love that song. Ahhh, it brings back sooo many memories. I had every toy of the season 1 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! I was just 5 years old when it was started! I loved the red Power Ranger and even dressed up as one for halloween. There must've been over 50 other kids at my elementary school who also dressed up as Jason the red Power Ranger that same year...
I have a friend that's absolutely OBSESSED with Sentai shows and musical theatre. He'd really love this discussion. I'll tell him about it if I see him.
Well, the first one was called "Go Ranger," and came out like 30 years ago. Japanese TV shows are made with a conclusion at the end of the season, then the next season is like a sequel. So since then every few years there's been a spinoff, hence Power rangers in space, Power rangers in time, jungle power rangers, Power ranger super ninja ole' biscutt barrel baddass chainsaw quizinart salesmen people, etc. Just do a search on "Super Sentai" and you'll find a bazillion pages on it. I don't know if Sentai means anything really. About five years ago I saw a play, it was Hamlet with the fat guy from the Power Rangers. As Hamlet. And it was completely serious. The yellow ranger chick was in it too. I wish I could have got that on tape.
Yup, "Tai" sometimes translate to "team" or "force" - like in Kagaku NinjaTai Gatchaman! (Science Ninja Team/force Gatchaman!).
I hated Power Rangers when it first came out over here - I must have been about 10 at the time. Though more recently, since becoming a college student anyway, I've had more time to watch crap on TV, and kinda started to like it though they mainly only show the newer series like Ninja Storm (or whatever the latest one is now). I used to get Fox Kids (the UK channel) on cable last year, and they used to show all that crap really late at night (after 3am) - Power Rangers, VR Troopers, Big Bad Beetle Borgs, and possibly even worse ones! That channel was great for watching old crap. Last year they bought back The Real Ghostbusters - possibly one of my most favourite cartoons of all time - and they were showing it every day, and at decent times too! I pretty much hadn't seen that show since the '80s, so it was some sort of hideous nostalgia trip for me (I still have the sticker albums somewhere, and some of the toys!). They also showed Digimon about 600 times a day (the first 3 series), which was nice if you like that sort of thing.
Oh yeah, it was about as corny as they came. I really don't know why I liked the show, but I'm with you - I'd love to see one of the episodes again (although for different reasons ). The toys were badass, though . You could make all sorts of different stuff with them. It was a Power Rangers ripoff, obviously, but they were fun. In fact, I think I'll take some pictures of them tonight. Let's see if I remember how to change them around...
DIGIMON RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW, so if you had some superhero chickens, they would be called Hentai?
I actually think they're pretty neat, but then again I never had many Power Ranger toys, so I had nothing to compare it to. I took some pictures last night, but only of the box (and how much dust was on it). I'll take out the actual toys tonight.
