If the pins are there for WiFi card and SD card then this thing will make for good durable system or smaller portables assuming it can be hacked...
ORIGINAL MESSAGE: Are you referring to the pads at the front? I have a feeling it's for the SD Card Reader (based on it being in the same position as on the original console and the SD Card-shaped marking on the board). EDIT: As Bad_Ad pointed out the WiiFi card *is* that shape. So ignore me, I'm being daft.
Its the same pad footprint as the wifi connector, not a sd card slot. The wifi board IS that shape. It would be over hanging the motherboard toward the front of the console - just like the bluetooth module in the picture.
Goody to see that at least we can get WiFi on this "wonderful" piece of work with some steady soldering.
I meant the part about wasting pennies each unit by connecting RGB pins virtually none of its intended audience will ever, ever use.
The thing that would cause this system to really skyrocket in price is if it at some point the copyright protection on this version of the Wii is completely cracked ala the Dreamcast and you'd be able to play burned games without any need for modding. Considering how seemingly rushed and hacked together the console is I don't think it's out of the question.
The firmware or whatever you call the main menu seems to be a quickly modified version of the standard Wii fare to remove the memory browser and network connection options. So the security might be right up there with the standard Wii strength. So it should be easily hacked up...
Or it could be a lot stronger given they had more than a few minutes to figure out what they did wrong before. No SD card slot or wifi means two avenues are completely closed for exploit vectors which leaves you with another game based exploit. But what? You can't load saves onto SD cards anymore? Well shit there goes another thought! Idle speculation amuses me.
Had plenty of time with the Wii U too - didnt help. Id imagine you can move saves around using USB - considering the network adapter isnt supported, why else have the port?
