Not every thing is 240P though. A lot of 480i stuff in the late 90's. Framemeister does a fine job, and pretty quick with deinterlacing. Like I said, a true replacement should outperform it.
The GBS can do deinterlacing, it just adds to the software complexity. As I said, someone has to code the software. What I have is tailor made for my TFT and has a lot of quirks. I don't care about deinterlacing so I get artefacts when a game uses it. It does display fine though, pretty much comparable with how it'd look on a CRT. No problems with the interlace mode switch either (no resync required). Good control software would look at the source parameters (they're kept in a few registers in the IC) and switch the deinterlace routine on and off as required. It could also automatically adjust PLL parameters and optimize the sync for perfect scrolling. Everything is accessible via the registers and can be controlled with an Arduino or anything else with I2C. Here's some Arduino code to get people started: http://www.kernelcrash.com/blog/the-gonbes-gbs-8200-and-arduino-uno/2016/04/20/ When someone wants to develop this, contact me for updated settings and tweaks! pics!
http://www.marvell.com/guide/results/?type=video_processors_and_hybrid_demodulator Can you search for the 88DE2755 ? It seems like the successor. He's going to make a video of him in his bath tub with all his Framemeisters "look at all my framemeisters nerds, Framemeisters you can't even buy anymore"
Same status as the 88DE2750 - also on LTB with the same date. I suspect they were discontinued together...
http://www.marvell.com/multimedia-solutions/ I wonder if any of the Armada 1500 chips could be a replacement, it does say that they have video DACs, though i don't really know enough about this sort of thing to say anything for sure.
I can't actually get the data for that one - I suspect it's one of the parts that requires a specific NDA. Based on the data brief, it doesn't actually do any analog processing and is really mostly a crypto block used for implementing various types of DRM crap. This is depressingly common with 4K silicon.
This is what I'm afraid of. The last of the high quality analog to digital processors might be done with. Might need something like this with the Framemeister down the road if displays stop liking the old 1.3 standard. https://www.hdfury.com/shop/videoprocessors/linker-4k60-444-600mhz/ Wonder I should grab a second Framemeister....
Ok... I bought my Framemeister XRGB mini this year. Never heard of it before until I was trying to get my Dreamcast running on my new tv... Sad it isnt getting a follow up.
Did you read something definitive saying that? The one article I saw said it was possibly the last xrgb, but nothing official.
I've just sold my Framemeister as the noise in solid colours and 240p->480i switching was annoying me. Went with the "SLG-in-a-box" from Arcadeforge as I think the GBS8200 will suit my needs just fine. I never used my Framemeister for gaming on an LCD. It was purely used as an HDMI converter to enable me to live stream my retro games.
Looks like I might need to buy a second one of these in reserve in the unlikely scenario my first takes a dive, since beyond SCARTing most everything, I also tend to use the D-Terminal connection for the PS2, PSP, and Gamecube. Cheaper cables (by just a bit).
Anyone in here already have one and use an older HDTV? Just curious if they have lag issues. I have a fairly old (like 5-10 year old) Sony Bravia television.
You can try searching google with the model # , or over at displaylag.com to see if they have the tested value. Just remember, manufacturers don't advertise that value, only pixel response time. I will say the Framemeister itself won't make the lag worse (noticeably at least, technically though ...yes. It's just shy over a frame at 20ms). If you've got any other HDMI sources (ps4, Wii u, PC) that can do classic games, try those if you notice a good bit of lag in game mode, you might want to consider a new TV. I'd say anything 30ms or under would be ideal (obviously, lower # you can get the better)
