    Hi,

I've been living with this issue for a while and it is just annoying the hell out of me now. I've searched high and low on forums and sites for assistance on this and really don't know where to turn.

I love my Framemeister Mini with almost all consoles, but the PS2..AAAARGH!

    Issue:

    - My NA PS2 is hooked up through my XRGB mini by means of component cables, through what I believe is called the d-terminal cable (off of the XRGB mini). HDMI runs from the XRGB mini to my flagship Samsung Plasma TV (which cost a small fortune and looks amazing with all sources).

    - Every other console I hook up through the XRGB mini (Saturn, DUO RX, Sega CD, Atari Jaguar) looks great to me, except for the PS2.

    - I did a firmware upgrade late last year on the XRRGB mini which resolved some issues, but now the issue that plagues all of my PS2 and PS1 (through the PS2) games are horizontal lines of noise, either static on the screen or scrolling up the screen (depending on the display settings from the XRGB mini). These lines are randomly either thick or thin. If I play with the setting of the XRGB mini, they may go thick. Then, I reverse the settings and they go thin. Then, I reverse the settings again and they stay thin. ?????

    - Also, the display occasionally will “freak out” for half a second and the images and the top of the screen will suddenly be in the middle of the screen, and then quickly go back. This happens maybe once every few minutes and mostly on title screens or animations.

    - The colors are muddy and I can’t even tell if the image looks better that what I get out of composite.

Now, I’ve watched youtube videos of people capturing video from their PS2 through the XRGB mini in the same configuration I have mine in, and theirs looks so much better than mine; clear and colorful.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong after playing with the settings for hours and hours. Keep in mind, my other systems look great on the XRGB mini. It’s just the PS2 and component video that displays these errors. I don’t expect it to be perfect, but I should be able to reproduce the same quality that others appear to be getting with the same setup.

Any experts on the PS2 through XRGB mini out there?

Have you tried a different component cable? Or a different PS2?

Or use an rgb lead instead of component

That won't do 480p for the games that support it though, the handful that there are hah

Stick to component for compatibility sake.

I've got a bad cable, openned it up and replaced the wires for individually shielded ones.

I bought some all red, blue and gree cables and cutted one of the plugs off.
    It's really pretty now.

I'll buy another component cable and go from there. I was hoping to not have to spend the money on that and find out that this is not the problem. I don't have a second PS2 at the moment (4 x TG16s, but no extra PS2s sigh). I'll let you guys know when I can cancel out the physical connections.

I thought you could only do RGB through the PS2 from a PAL/JP console, not NA??

    Rgb works on them all.

Not sure about the xrgb, but most Tvs won't work with ps1 over component.

Cheap cables are likely to be noisy. Buy something with a bit more quality and see how that goes.

Interesting that RGB works on all regions of PS2

Component works for me (at least over the PS2), it just sucks right now.

The PS2 hardware is essentially the same for all regions, other than the region-locking.

Yeah, you should try a new/different cable.

Bought the official Sony ones PS3/PS2. Now I play the waiting game for delivery. i might do the RGB connectivity too if I don't get the desired results.

New cable arrived today. Turns out, the cable was the issue, 100%. The picture is night and day by comparison. Even after all these years, I can still get wrapped up in the trying to solve an issue through software without checking for physical issues first. Which is probably why when it was suggested to replace the cable, I immediately did. Just sort of shook my head and realized that was probably the issue.

However, although it looks much much better now, I did notice that when characters are moving on the screen, their edges a slightly distorted. Sort of like the solid line becomes a broken line. The difference between: _____________________ vs. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
I'm not sure if that is a normal trait of upscaled PS1/PS2 praphics, or an actual issue.

You mean shimmering, as if there is a lack of anti-aliasing? That should be a PlayStation 2 thing because that was a complaint about this system since eons ago.

Yeah, I thought about that. I was working in a video game shop in the early 2000's and I remember when we first got the PS2 in as a store demo. I put it up against the Dreamcast (Dead of Alive 2). I could clearly see the "jaggies" on the PS2 images and the Dreamcast was smooth. I never did buy the PS2 back then. I bet on the Dreamcast and we all know how that went. Great system though.
I only got a PS2 in the last year to play PS1 games, but as usual with me, a few game purchases turned into many.
