does it support profiles? Or is there a perfect set up so everything looks good, 240p to 480p? RGB, VGA (via HDMI converter) and component ?
If you are using the latest firmware then yes, it does support profiles. Where you can download then though I don't know. I set my own up.
Find the thread I made a month or so ago all is revealed. Or I'll just link you here. https://assemblergames.com/threads/so-i-took-the-plunge-and-bought-a-framemeiester-now-what.66459/
I use the Profile option also. First i try some cutom profiles from here: http://www.firebrandx.com/framemeisterprofiles.html But than i create a profile for each of my console by my self. An good source is also https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4ngkmg51Bea36_jKwc8cjf7fCVunV6MR some good basics there.
I learned very early on that what works for one system won't another. If you want say the SNES/Super Famicom to look like it's on a TV you need 720p with scanlines, but that doesn't work well for the N64. I'm still trying to figure out how to make the N64 look it's best. Firebrand's N64 Profiles still need some tweeking on my end. Firebrand's 1080p 4x SNES profile looks amazing though emulator good.
I found increasing the brightness helped a lot of N64 games. The stock preset works pretty well for anything else 240p tbh.
Yeah My main issue with the N64 was making everything as smooth and sharp as some You Tube Gameplay videos. I don't exactly have any of the N64's more graphically demanding games to calibrate with. I got OK results calibrating with Star Fox 64 but that's not the best looking game either. I'm thinking my lack luster results are because I'm using S-Video, modding my N64 would've been expensive. I was quite tempted to HDMI mod it but ruled against it when I started buying up more retro consoles.
I use the FirebrandX profiles and don't really have problems other than adjusting the black level and A/R level to suit my consoles sometimes.
are you using the RGB board (the one that takes digital signals from the gpu/cpu), it has a anti-anti-aliasing patch to remove the N64 AA
