Free Assassin's Creed II on XBL?

They are giving away some old games leading up to the Xbox One launch. Trying to make it seem like Playstation Plus, but half-assing it the whole time.

 

Looks like i need to hop back to the Xbox 360 this week starting monday hopefully!

 

Yeah, and it's not even CLOSE to as good as the goodies and discounts I get from PS+

and I've only had PS+ for 2 weeks.

 

Yes. It's part of a six month promotion that started at E3. One free game every two weeks for Gold members.

June (E3 to end of month) = Fable III
July 1-15 = Defense Grid
July 16-31 = Assassins Creed II
Aug 1-15 = ???

They're older titles, but they're yours to keep even if Gold lapses. Good use for the 1-month codes if you happen to be silver and see a game you like.

If you have an Xbox Live account based in India you can download the following games for free:

If you're not in India you'll need to be on the beta dash to get them as they are only free if you pay via real money. If you try to pay with points you have to pay the listed price.

Thought it was an error at first, but it's been going on for almost a week now so it must be some sort of local promotion.

Well, the "buy X titles and get XXXX MSP in return" promos on LIVE have been pretty good. The Deal of the Week stuff has been a bit hit and miss, but there's been some pretty good stuff there too. MS hasn't exactly been generous on the free stuff for Gold subscriptions until lately ... and it's got a bit of catching up to do there ... However, unlike PS+, you get to keep even the entirely free stuff (such as AC2) if you become a non-paying member after downloading it. Unlike PS+, where you only get to keep the stuff you paid additional for (discounted items)

 

WTF, I can't see any free stuff here in Japan and I'm stuck on that stupid beta dash.

 

It's no wonder people in Japan don't like the 360. We've got fuck all on free offer. A real kick in the balls concidering I've been a Gold member since 2009!
So I logged in to my UK gold account (the bastards won't cancel it either!) and yes, Assassins Creed II is there so I click on it to download and wait about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes 0% has downloaded. They are bleeding blocking me from downloading it from the looks of it. Oh, I'm so pissed off.

EDIT - 1% has now downloaded. Are the UK servers really this slow??? A 4.5GB game download here takes only a few minutes.

 

this game was supposed to be available only till July 31 and here I am Aug 1 downloading it.

Looks like it. I had a mate download it and he reckoned it took about a day on his fibre optic connection. Probably demand/low available bandwidth.

 

I'm not surprised. I can confirm what Banjo said; I was downloading from the appropriate NA server and it still took a helluva lot longer than it should have.

 

Full of idiots apparently. For whatever reason my computer decided to completely skip over July 31 and being as tired as I was I did not question it.

 

It took me like 15 minutes or so, a lot shorter than downloading full PS3 games, where I can go to the gym and have it still sit there.

 

Well, I finally got Assassin's Creed II after 2 hours of download time. I'm now a happy man (still pissed that in japan we can't download this though) but I probably won't be playing it because today Amazon will deliver Killer is Dead Premium version. man, this game looks so cool. I can't wait for tonight.

 

Crackdown is the new game for this month. I think I may actually already own this one. Guess what we got in Japan?? Full House Poker Whoopy fucking do! Well, at least we got something. Should be a new game tomorrow though. Ours go up on the 2nd and 17th of each month.

 

I can't wait to get this game either looks as crazy as No More Heroes did!
