What he said a few minutes ago.

As far as I know and from what I've heard everything has stablized. But I figured the best way to know how things in Japan are would be to actually ask people in Japan...how things are.

So...how are things at the moment?

As expected your friend has no idea what he's talking about.

Does he live in New York City? He should be more worried about his own life (see link).

    Here's some info

In terms of radiation things seem fairly normal at the moment in the major cities.

Well he is the most paranoid person I know. He thinks the FBI is spying on him through facebook because he supports Ron Paul.

Sounds like you just answered your own post there.

EDIT: How to figure out radiation levels in Tokyo, by GaijinPunch

    1: Go to Ustream
2: Type in a city in Japanese (東京 works) + ガイガーカウンター
    3: Buy popcorn

Didn't that originally take a few nukes going off to bring him about? I doubt a handful of cesium is capable.

A lot of news media does seem to pick up on things like radioactive iodine is slightly higher then normal levels in the water or cesium is slightly higher then normal levels in food and not mentioning that fact that in the EU, the amounts would not even get mentioned as they would fall within the safety limits.

It is also funny that Ibaraki that is the prefecture south of Fukushima has levels of radioactive iodine in the water that is about the national average and lower then Tokyo...

Anyway, the radioactive levels 50km outside Fukushima are still low, people who live in Cornwall or Colorado will tend to get much higher levels of natural background radiation then anyone living 50km outside the Fukushima plant would get. I get more radiation from flying the 4 times a year (flights greater then 10 hours) then I will get from living in Ibaraki for 10 years.

yah well there have been quite a few reports about very high radiation levels in rice beef so on and so forth

and the radiation leaked is way higher then ever reported by both the japan government and plaint owners

i still think a 150 mile radios should of been evacuated

ide rather be in Hiroshima and Nagasaki then Tokyo

150 miles? You do realise that would mean the entire evacuation of the following prefectures Fukushima, Miyagi, Yamagata, Tochigi, and Ibaraki the near evacuation of the Gunma, Saitama, Niigata, Chiba and Tokyo prefectures including the whole of the 23 wards of Tokyo City as well as the closure of both Tokyo Airports. Iwate, Akita, Kanagawa, Nagano and Yamanashi would also require some evacuation including half of Yokohama city. That would be roughly about 35 million people... And for what benefit? None at all, if anything it would have crippled the country. The 30km zone was fine.

Yes there have been high levels of cesium found in Rice and Beef, but anyone with a brain would notice these places were quite near the plant. Outside of this the increase has been tiny if not at all. My GFs family run a large farm in Ibaraki (about 150km south of the plant), they have a geiger counter as well as other things to test cesium and idodine levels and since the accient there has not been any increase that would be dangerous.

The links that Tatsujin posted, you will see there was a spike soon after the accident and is has gone down, but it was what 0.1 micrograys an hour, you are aware that 1 hour of flying will measure 5 micrograys per hour and New York would still have double the amount of Tokyo.

Most americans do seem to scared of radiation, even if it is negliable amounts. The number of people in japan that will die from cancer from radiation from Fukushima in total is still going to be lower then the number of people that die in 2 weeks in America due to obesity...

I was going to apply for studying a year at Waseda, but since all the news on the Spanish TV about the radiation levels in northeast Japan, my parents went berserk thinking that I was going to a complete suicide, like if I was going to spend a year inside Chernobyl's reactor core... I'll try to apply to Kyoto University, but still I've lost a great opportunity... Stupid sensationalist news... :crying:
